I have been wanting to plan a trip out to Moab, Utah for a week the only down fall is that I am on the east coast in South Carolina. I have heard of people shipping their Jeeps out to Moab and then flying out there so they don't have to drive across the country, I know you can rent jeeps out there but if I'm going I want to be in my own rig.

If you have done a similar trip to this what was your experience and would you do it again?

Drive it out there yourself and you get an extra Iron Butt Badge of Honor.

Moab is as good as advertised. Youā€˜ll never regret it. Put in the brain damage to get White Rim permits and spend a couple of nights doing it. It’s not a difficult trail but it’s very immersive and beautiful.

Time vs. Money...

Someone will ship your Jeep, but you lose a bit of control on timing. Someone has to receive the car at destinations, etc. This can be a pain, but certainly manageable.

Price your time and convenience against the actual cost to ship/fly, and you can decide on your answer.

My opinion? Do the drive.

I've done this round trip from Yardley, PA 5X.
I plan to do it again a few more times to hit the trails I've missed.
Sand Hollow is also on my list.

If you really, really don't want to drive across the county then just rent. They won't allow you to do the more insane trails, but you can verify that when choosing a rental shop. Many of the rentals there are pretty damn well equipped. As a nontraditional alternative consider renting one through Turo.

As others have noted, the logistics of putting it on a truck and actually having it be there at the right time might be a gamble. Additionally, I'm guessing about a grand to a grand and a half each way.

I would say to do the trip in your jeep and make the journey there part of the adventure.

Arrive with in Moab fresh and NOT burnt out of driving. There are a ton of things to see and do between you and Moab. Add an extra day or two to your plan and it will feel much better

Last April @19 JLUR Bright Whit3 did a round trip from NJ.
If you don't site see, you can get there in 3 days. I wheeled the late afternoon on the 3rd day. LOL. I stayed in Walmart parking lots off the interstates.

I will do it again soon for the Rubi Trail. :bandit:

I’m doing Moab with my wife and whoever wants to join the last week in August. Taking multiple vehicles with us. My wife can’t make the 700 mile trip in one shot so we are stopping in St George for the day and enjoying the day there. Just plan for an extra day or two and make it worthwhile.

We swung through Moab on the way to the Grand Canyon last summer. I'd say make the drive. You'll be amazed at how quickly you can eat up miles. It's probably 3 days to get there from South Carolina but the southern route will take you along I-40 (Route 66). Lots of things to see and do along the way.

We've decided at some point soon we're going to head back to Moab and make it our destination, rather than a stop along the way. There were too many things that we didn't have time to do on our last trip.

Are there touring outfits out there where you drive your own Jeep but they lead the way out on the trails and can assist if you get in trouble? I'm too old to breakdown out in the middle of nowhere but would really like to put my Jeep through it's paces and see some new horizons.

Dan Mick used to offer guided tours and Iā€˜m pretty sure his kids still do.
Nobody will know Moab trails more than that family.

You won’t be disappointed.
Dan and his family are super nice people and the best at what they do.
