Good morning all and thank you for your help.

Taking a trip to Moab the last week of April 23, just myself and my dog. I will be taking my Gladiator Overland which has 2" of lift and 35's.

My plan is to use my Gladiator for light trails for a couple days and rent a UTV for a couple days.

I picture my days leaving the hotel early and going for a hike with my dog and then finding a good scenic easy to drive trail so I can enjoy the views and takes lots of photos also with my pup.

I was hoping someone could give me an idea which hikes and UTV/Jeep trails are good to pair together in the same day. Also keep in mind there will be a dog with me at all times.

Also keeping the trail driving on the easy side would be great as I'd like to drive home without any damage to my jeep.

any and all advice appreciated!

thank you

Check out All Trails. They have good suggestions on hiking trails. We did one last summer about an hour South in Canyonlands called Elephant Hill to Chesler Park Loop. About 10 miles...pretty strenuous hike...you could do Elephant Hill jeep trail then as well...I think it is rated a bit more difficult but have heard others say it is more moderate? If looking for a pretty trail to drive, Onion Creek is awesome as you get to drive through the creek like 20 some times! Not sure if any hikes around there. Enjoy it is a beautiful place.

Retired from Corrections....I have stories.
I could type for days about hiking and Jeeping in Moab. I camped, wheeled and hiked for a month in Moab this year and been there two time before this visit. You can easily skip renting at SxS as your Jeep is plenty capable of many trails without damaging it.

We would typically hike in the morning and Jeep in the afternoon. I have wheeled about 40 or fifty of the trails that are in the Moab trail book. Done most of the major hikes and sights in The Arches NP. Hiked a bunch of Canyon Lands and so on. I will be driving from Michigan to the southwest for four five months of hiking and Jeeping on Tuesday. If you want, I can drop you my number and you can call me for a casual conversation about Moab. I will be driving for four to five days. I lead our groups when there and do the majority of the spotting.

Get a good rear bumper and/or stinger for the rear hitch. I scratched the hell out of my rear bumper from dropping off ledges and I was in my stock JL 2dr with 35’s. Your JT rear end is going to get a work out.

Do the white rim trail. It’s spectacular, you won’t be sorry.
I’d recommend 3 days, two nights with hiking along the way.

No lift? I‘m hopefully heading there this late spring with my JL 2dr w/35s and a 1.5in Clayton lift. Still have my OEM rear bumper. Honestly I don’t care if that gets scratched up but I don’t want to destroy my hitch.

Great trail. Trouble is it's a national park and no dogs are allowed. So that limits what the OP can run. Still, there are plenty of dog friendly trails out there.

I wouldn't say that I destroyed my hitch. It's plenty tough. But I did rub all the powdercoat off the bottom. Depending on the trail you will drag your hitch dropping off the steps.

The OP posted about a stock JT. Plenty of bed hanging out there to drag.

If the OP wants to do the White Rim Trail, he better get on the Recreation.gov web site and set a reservation asap. I was not able to get a permit and they were booked for months in advance.

We spent two weeks in Moab on our last trip. I have some info on probably a half a dozen if you look at that thread. https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/fo...-sedona-october-22.101937/page-2#post-2120053

We met a bunch of guys on a JT forum trip while we were on poison spider, spend the UTV rental money on skids and send it :)

The leader of the JT group was from Colorado, if you can find him, maybe he could meet you. Spotted the whole group(no one was modified more than you).

Ah, good catch. That rule pisses me off, but I understand there are so many people that are irresponsible with their pups.

Spent about 10 days overlanding in Utah last spring and we loved the area so much, we moved here from Maine. I think our favorite easier trails were Onion Creek, Dome Wash to Dome Plateau, The Wedge Overlook. If you plan to rent a SxS you now (new law) need to take a free training course before you can rent.
