Hmmm….Moab just got hit with a flash flood. https://www.sltrib.com/news/2024/06/22/repairs-moab-flash-flood-may-take/

We visited after the flood in ‘22. None of the Jeep trails were directly impacted, but we had to take a length detour to the Needles District in Canyonlands NP to run Elephant Hill. Most of the businesses in town were still open , but the park along the creek was a mess. Lots of dried mud in the downtown streets too
Yeah, it was a shit show. Somehow the hail didn't take out my Wrangler, but we just got home and I haven't really inspected it yet. Fortunately we had just finished Hell's Revenge about 15 minutes before it hit.

Sooo much damage throughout town.

According to that link, it appears it's closed just West of Gunnison. We will be coming from the East and turning South on 149 headed towards Lake City. Or am I missing another closure point?
I'm not sure. Last I heard they had a route open twice a day for locals only, but I haven't seen an update in quite a while.

That sucks. I guess we will see.

My wife found this video of the resultant waterfalls. They were gorgeous, especially when they were backed by rainbows when we drove that stretch along the Colorado.

So amazing to see, where were y’all staying? Were you impacted?

We were camping along the Colorado. Our RTT on our trailer held up fine, but there were tents in the campground that got filled with mud. That'd really suck.

We were at Milt's burger place when it hit. Frightening stuff.

We were in Moab when the 2022 floods hit. Luckily we were in town and not out on the sandstone.

I’ve never seen so much lightening, and the waterfalls coming off the cliffs to the west of town were gorgeous.

we slept through the flooding, which hit at night. We were about a block to the north of the reach of the floodwater; and the JLUR was in an underground parking structure. Much more flooding and the jeep would have been under 10+ feet of water.

we woke up the next AM to head home and saw all the damage, it was something else!!

We are heading out first thing in the morning. They are having a flash flood warning today for Moab and the San Juan mountain range, from Silverton to Gunnison, the exact area we plan on wheeling all day Sunday into Monday. With the possibility of wash outs along our route from Lake City to HWY 550, on those trail roads, is there a sight we can check for possible route problems before we roll up on them?
Or are we going to be the Christopher Columbus of those roads? I do have OnX Off Road app so if it's blocked or washed out I will be posting it.

Thank you to all who have offered help, tips, and advice. We are excited to get to go and now that I have my new @WOLFBOX CAR LIFE camera installed, I will try to upload some shots.

Have a fantastic trip, and keep us posted on how it goes, and what issues the weather throws your way!

You've got to just roll the dice. We spent last weekend around Moab and had flash flood warnings most of the time. Zeus and Thor only smacked us around once, but it was one hell of a smacking. Just watch the weather while you're there.

Hopefully you're prepared to deal with hwy 50. If you insist on going to Gunnison it looks like it'll add somewhere between an hour and a half to three hours to your route. Note that it'll all be beautiful, so maybe that's ok.

If you're doing trails around Ouray then try to add Silver Basin Trail to your list. It's gorgeous.
