@Craigger did a moab trip recently and used a guide out there. He might be able to shed some light on that.
Yes, I went the week after EJS and used Jeeper Jeff (https://jeeperjeff.com/). I can't compare to anyone else but I was very happy with him and consider myself a moderately experienced wheeler. Jeff was willing to spot me on any line I wanted to try but still kept us safe. I do admit he looked a little nervous when I took this off camber downhill line on Golden Spike (Jeff was spotting me, his partner took the photo).

The pictures just don’t do the obstacles justice. I remember doing that same obstacle back in 2013 and it was way, way worse than the picture shows.

I’ve rented twice in Moab. The first was Farrabees probably 12 or so years ago. The second about 7-8 years ago was Twisted Jeeps. Twisted Jeeps offered a cash discount if you paid upfront at the time. Both great vehicles, lifted Rubicons. Twisted Jeeps allowed more trails at the time.

Get your baby steps in at Fins N Things then Hells Revenge is my reco. You can do those in one day. Secret Spire was another one that wasn’t difficult but fun to get to. Seven Mile Rim is rocky. Monitor and Merrimack buttes are worth the trip.

My next trip I want my own Jeep but I’m a few years from that drive from CT.

Enjoy!

I've been once to Moab, last fall. It was a giggle. We did about 4-5 of the badge trails. I will say that the Poison Spider-Golden Spike-Gold Bar Rim-Gemini Bridges trails day was the best day I've had on the trail. IMO, it was more fun than the Rubicon and definitely more scenic.

Are there touring outfits out there where you drive your own Jeep but they lead the way out on the trails and can assist if you get in trouble? I'm too old to breakdown out in the middle of nowhere but would really like to put my Jeep through it's paces and see some new horizons.
Jeep Jamboree does some awesome guided runs. Highly recommended...if you can get in.

I almost went with the same guide you're looking at but after watching this series of videos felt pretty comfortable doing it myself. You also won't be on the trails by yourself. Even if you pull over for lunch almost everyone stops to check on you.

I have been wanting to plan a trip out to Moab, Utah for a week ... I am in South Carolina. I have heard of people shipping their Jeeps out to Moab and then flying out there so they don't have to drive across the country...
I have driven from Nashville to Moab a number of times. Some thoughts. A week of driving from SC to UT and back is a week of driving and a day of wheeling, maybe, and you are worn out. If you have two weeks, now it gets good. Or, if you have two one week periods and have another vehicle back home, you can drive out to Moab and check your Jeep into a 10x20' storage unit in Grand Junction and fly back and forth. Costs about $100 per month or less for the storage and they are month to month. Or maybe you have a buddy that will fly out and bring it back so you have more time on the slick rock.

Gettin a car hauler is not a good option. If you leave more than $100 worth of goods in the vehicle they have to be registered with the DOT as "household goods movers" to be financially liable to you. And since they are not, they are legally only responsible for $100 of loss. Meaning someone can steal all your tools, camping gear or what not and they pay you $100. Your call on whether it is worth the risk.

As to the road trip itself. I have taken from 3 to 10 days to get to Moab from Nashville. I have never gotten on an interstate for over 10% or so of the trip, usually when that is the only choice. Piecing together back roads, dirt roads, levies, ferries and trails along with US Highways and farm roads is an exceptionally good way to use your Jeep. Frankly, I cannot stand to be pushed down the Interstate pipe by other motorists. Consider your time across country as part of the destination. Stop only at restaurants you have never heard of. You know the food is good by the number of pickup trucks parked in front. Get into conversations with the people around you.

When you get back, you have not only seen America, you have a better understanding of America. And had a blast with your Jeep.

I only live 750 miles away so I can go 2X a year and just drive it in one shot as pretty easy as speed limits for the most part are 80mph so 80-85mph is doable. I have a buddy who is from Ohio and he has met us fairly often. If time is an issue he will store his vehicle on the way back in Colorado Springs and fly home and then come back later and get his jeep. He said it is cheap and safe to store his jeep and an uber takes him to the airport.

Yeah, this turn was definitely a pucker moment. Steep downhill right turn, way off camber to the left, and your instincts are screaming at you to turn left into the downhill but that would result in a rollover. Good times!

Retired from Corrections....I have stories.
I have drove three time from Michigan to Moab. The drive across the Great Plains suck ass. If you live east of the Mississippi River, no matter what route you take, there will be a thousand miles of driving that sucks. With that said, make the drive and do it with your Jeep. It is a Jeepers bucket list type of thing. We have wheeled approximately 50+ trails in the Moab area. If it is your first time there. Concentrate on the Jeep badge of honor trails. They are among some of the best trails out there in Moab.

Not the best overall, but great nonetheless.
Fines&Things and Hells Revenge are great trails to do first as they have nice short obstacles that will give you some good exposure to the capabilities of your Jeep and build you some confidence in your Jeep.

Save Cliffhanger and Pritchett Canyon for last… if you do them at all. You can easily find others to run the trails with. Just be at the trail head in the morning. Someone will come along and welcome you to join them. Also if you hang out at the grocery store/gas station, you can ask people about tagging along.

biggest thing is just stay with in your skill level and the capacity of your Jeep.

There are trails like Poison Spider that you can string together with other trails like Golden Spike, the Golden Rim and so on that make for long days.

make sure you have plenty of water with you. I have had fellow jeepers that have overheated their rear brakes and had to use water bottles to cool off the rear brakes and rotors.

That looks intense! Golden Spike is on my list for my Moab trip in September. I assume that's not the only line down that? (asking for a friend 😉)

I would say, make it two weeks and drive yourself, but that's just me.

I will be in Moab hopefully in June, July or August. Not sure yet. Just starting to look at things now. We're in tombstone right now and plan on going to Utah, Idaho, and Colorado in that three months period.

Can't wait!

There's another line to the left which isn't off-camber but not easy. It's a series of shelves that go down but the line looked pretty straightforward.

Try the tippy tree! You might like it!
