Guaranteed that the belt tensioner that’s bolted to the back of the BSG is faulty.
Thanks for the tip! I'll have to try and check that to see if I can tell if it's bad. I have to add that it has done this pretty much since new and it only has 8500 miles on it now. Surprised it would go bad that fast or must have been defective from the factory.

Yeah mines the exact same noise and close to same mileage.

As a 4th jk/jl owner of 3.6, second etorque owner, here is my take.

The etorque on my 2020 1500 hemi, flawless, never knew it was there. The lengths they go to to squeeze 1mpg, amazing. A heating system routed to rear axle to heat fluid to improve short drive mileage. By 1/2 mpg. An air damn which extended below front bumper, 1 inch, maybe gives it 1/4 mpg. Etorque gives it an honest 1 mpg. End result, a 1500 hemi giving me up to 23mpg hiway .

To my latest 23 2dr rubicon 3.6 etorque. Roughest driving vehicle ever. Engine shut down before coming to complete stop, then jerky restarts. I never noticed any etorque accel torque like the 1500. It made for very jerky shifts decelerating, then sometimes smooth. It's currently been at the dealer 6 weeks, no word.

So if they come up with a delete, mine would be gone. As for removing fuel injection, we'll, if it worked as poorly as etorque, I'd go carb.

I personally know it can work, I'm just not convinced they will spend any money fixing it, like the deisel, as they move to full electric.

So it will be too complicated to change out 1 component on the trail should it fail so your solution is to rip the whole system out? Isn't that infinitely more complicated than changing a failed part? Even if you remove all the components and swap in a standard alternator I doubt the ecm is going to ever be happy. I don't understand the paranoia about this thing. There are few failures ever reported on this or any forum I've been on and if you believe the number of complaints your paint will have bubbled off, your visors will have fallen out, and you'll have lifter failure long before you need to worry about the etorque. An LS or hemi swap and the new ecu that comes with it would probably be the only way I'd even remotely consider an etorque delete.

My prediction, when the etorque batteries reach the end of their useful life in large enough numbers, the aftermarket will offer a cheaper solution than OEM. If there’s money to be made, necessity is the mother of invention.

Like a battery replacement mount for four typical 12V batteries or two 24V... I wonder if the discharge rate would be fast enough. Or if the cooling circuit would still be needed (maybe it's for the DC/DC converter?)

Maybe Genesis Offroad will have something developed by then

Your eTorque is faulty, then. My 3.6 eTorque is absolutely terrific, and exhibits none of the behavior you describe. The ESS is buttery smooth. Shifts are perfect. Take-offs are faultless. Sorry you’re having these troubles.

I wish there was an override switch that turned off all the eTorque related features (except what was required for engine charging). I want to know how much it is/isn't doing with regards to initial launch, shifting, regenerative braking etc.

On mine quite a lot. It was not working from the day I picked up due to a faulty 12v battery leaving it in a disabled mode. First drive with repair done and peeled out from first intersection. Quite a difference. I also agree it’s buttery smooth. Aswell I expect some sort of aftermarket upgrade over time.

Honestly I'd strongly suspect the E-torque fleet isn't nearly large enough for the 3.6L for something aftermarket to ever exist. They only used the tech for a few years and by the time they're out of warranty they'll be coming up on nearly a decade old.

I personally wouldn't suggest buying an e-torque in a decade due to part availability alone honestly. They aren't advertised as blatantly as 4XEs though, so I wonder if they'll have different resale values down the line once that warranty is up. You have to look pretty close at market listings to see the e-torque part, compared to the 4XE being its own trim.

Thankfully, my 2.0L etorque is still kicking. Only the 12v battery was a pos.

I think in the future there will be 2 options... An aftermarket battery for the 48v, and an alternator and associated harness. I would be surprised if you need another ECM to delete but more likely a software change or module added. Perhaps one of the dealer techs has seen a toggle menu...

eTorque is fantastic, shifts and launches are perfect. You should take a JL tub and stick it on a CJ.... I have enjoyed the hell out my JL80th
