I've been trying to learn something about maintaining the eTorque engines. I'm coming up dry.

  • How can I monitor the health of the 48-volt battery?
  • Any way to see the operating voltage or charge direction?
  • How do I replace the battery coolant? Do I have to pump out of the top, or is there a drain plug somewhere?
  • Same for the MGU coolant. Can I drain it, or do I vacuum from the top?
  • After changing coolant, do I need to bleed it somehow?

Who can share notes about maintaining the eTorque system?

This is all I could find in the Owner's Manual for a '21. Anyone have a shop manual?

Page 401 - Coolant Checks
Check the engine, battery (if equipped), intercooler (if equipped), and Motor Generator Unit (MGU) (if equipped) coolant (antifreeze) protection every 12 months (before the onset of freezing weather, where applicable). If the engine, battery (if equipped), intercooler (if equipped), and MGU (if equipped) coolant is dirty or rusty in appearance, the system should be drained, flushed and refilled with fresh OAT coolant (conforming to MS.90032) by an authorized dealer.

It shares the same coolant system as the main, once you change it changes with the main coolant
That seems very surprising, since there are three different expansion tanks (main, MGU, and battery) and at least one additional radiator. And the manual (as rdfact said) lists three different capacities. Plus, super-hot coolant from the engine would be circulating around the battery.

Maintenance for the eTorque system only requires periodic visual inspection of the components and replacement of the serpentine belt at 150,000 miles. Reference and good article on eTorque, even though it discusses the Ram, but should be the same motor as ours.

The owner's manual says the MGU and battery coolant should be replaced, too. Some of the questions I asked in my post are about how that replacement is accomplished.

The manual also says that the MGU and battery coolant re replaced at different intervals than the engine coolant, which impugns whitechocolate's claim that the coolants are in the same system.

IIRC the e-Torque belt is a separate belt.

Gregj

At least on the 2.0 it is.

it's really confusing so you mean number 5 & 7& 9 all of them are using the same antifreeze coolant ?
I don't think @whitechocolate 's response makes much sense. There are three separate reservoirs, so I don't see how they could possibly be the same coolant system.

I have really low level on number 7 which is ( power pack unit ) I don’t know which fluid I should add in it I couldn’t find any information anywhere even in the manual it’s self it’s getting really annoying and confusing man ??‍♂??‍♂
Maybe you should go to a mechanic or dealer if you can't figure it out. You'll also want to figure out where it's leaking. But in my owner's manual, it's on page 285:
