That ended years before either engine was introduced, but yeah, they're very, very similar! I hear about people swapping Pentastars into their G-Wagons all the time! Lots of people say they feel like a rocket ship!
That Youtuber "I do cars" tore a Pentastar apart and he said it is copy of a European engine. I forgot what company. I think it was Maserati. Our 3.6 was born for 0W-40 😃👍

I think it is the contrary, the ghibli v6 is a spin off the pentastar

Jason from Engineering Explained.

“Fenske further explains why GM is making the switch from 0W-20 to 0W-40. Generally speaking, it’s inadvisable to increase the first number or decrease the second number in an engine oil’s viscosity, because it introduces the engine to a viscosity it isn’t designed for. However, increasing the second number isn’t as risky since the whole operating range of 0W-40 oil is within the operating range of 0W-20 oil.”
1,350 miles on 0W-40 right now. At 1,500 I will 🧐 the filter and magnetic drain plug and will send oil for UOA. If things look normal, then this is my forever oil. I am pumped 🤩👍

Possibly. Surely they tested and got good results between the rings and piston ring grooves. We did it for lower friction and powa!
Surely...and stop calling me Shirley! LOL
Owned three Subarus and am done with that junk. They all consumed more oil between changes than any other car I've ever owned...first 2010 Forester was a great car, 2015 with CVT not so much, 2012 was nothing but a money pit of problems. :/

Your forever oil? No matter what engine you have next?

Yeah that boxer layout doesn’t help and sounds like they went too far with the ring tension if they went from no issues to an oil burning problem just with lower tension.

I'm no oil guru but, looking at the kinematic viscosity of 0w20 vs 5w30, the two are different by only 6 degC. For example, 5w30 at 6 degC has the same viscosity as 0w20 at 0 degC. I don't know at what temperature 0w20 is too thick but shouldn't 5w30 work fine at just 6 degC warmer that? I realize this chart doesn't go down to -40 deg but I believe it is safe to say the two lines remain close together.

Comparing them at specific temperatures, 5w30 is 37% more viscous at 0 degC and 17% more viscous at 100 degC. It sounds like a much bigger difference when stated this way. The magic of numbers. Say it one way to make it sound minimal, say it another to make it sound like a lot.

Sliding window :)
Just to add, pass the 0c they start using a different test and unit as cst is no longer accurate. The warm temperature test is about how good the oil flow and the low temperature test is how much resistance to rotations the oil offers.
But yes in essence you got it spot on, if you live in warmer climate increasing the viscosity is just counters balancing the extra temperature.
Now if i wanted to write a paper and get clicks I would say: climate charge force ICE owner to increase their engines oil viscosity :CWL:

From what I understand this is correct. Maserati is a Stellantis company and has borrowed lots of parts. Much of the 3.0 parts are from the 3.6 Pentastar which makes my wallet happy with owning a 2015 Ghibli.

The 3.0 depending on year was spec'd with 5W40 or 10W60 oil. Mine is the 5W40 year. This seems to be a common weight for Euro cars. My old Audi took 5W40 or 0W40 Euro as long as it was VW-502 spec. That engine sounded better with Liquid Moly 5W50 over Mobil 1 0W40 even though both oils met spec.

As for our 2018 JLU. It is at 110,000 miles and has had a life of 0W20 following the oil life monitor change interval. Zero problems with the engine

The engine won't even feel that difference. At 40 degrees F 0w20 is far far thicker than 20w60 at operating temperature. But people's engines don't blow up on 0w20 at 40 degrees F.
Starting the Jeep with 5w30 at 30 degrees F is like starting the Jeep with 0w20 at say 15 degrees F. The engine won't care, the oil pump will pressure spank 5w30 to all the parts of the engine. My Jeep starts right up with no drama on 0W-40, and my dad's 1998 4Runner starts right up on 20w60 🤩👍

You have a rather "interesting" perspective of performance if you think your Jeep feels like a rocket ship.
I tend to not listen to automotive advice given by a person that can't even figure out how to install a cabin air filter. Actually, I tend to think the opposite of what they said is probably the best course.
