First of all, don't go by the way the filter looks. It is just straight up unwise to not replace the filter when you replace the oil. Secondly, if you are worried about the housing cracking replace the OEM housing with an upgraded aluminum housing. There have been too many complaints about the polymer housing cracking and warping in the 3.6 Pentastar to ignore, whether it be from over-tightening, or degradation over time due to heat exposure yet Jeep claims that the notorious Pentastar oil leak problem has more to do with the O-rings failing than an inferior housing. Also, use a good full synthetic oil like Mobile One or Amsoil that are rated for 20,000+ miles along with a Purolator or WIX oil filter that lasts the same. This way you don't have to change your oil at 2000 miles and instead change it at about 10,000 miles to ensure that your engine oil is always good and doing its job. Also, buy an aluminum cap for the oil filter housing and ALWAYS use a torque wrench to tighten the cap at the recommended torque settings. If you open just the oil cap and let the oil drain without opening the filter, is it not good enough, even if you let it drain overnight? I'm asking this because every time I change my oil so early, my filter is so clean, so I don't want to change my filter.
3.6 pentastar, thank you
I can't take all the credit, my 2020 had a paint mark from the factory! That's a great idea, thank you
Don't let that plastic filter housing scare you my friend. Let me explain it so you can understand it. You have to be gentle with it. Make sure the threads are clean, oil the O-ring real good like. Just snug it down. Do not over tighten it. Remember, just snug. Use a very small wrench or ratchet handle. Don't go using a 2 foot breaker bar. You gotta take the time to rub an old dog behind the ears first, be gentle.Yeah but I do not want to open that filter housing too much
I would recommend against using one of the current aftermarket aluminum oil filter housings, unless they recently incorporated the separated oil and coolant port seals between the cooler and housing.First of all, don't go by the way the filter looks. he is one of three for me and every once and a while I unblock him and soon realize why I blocked him in the first place...the other two ended up being banned so I no longer have to worry about them..funny thing they all lived in the same general area lol...maybe they are all the same person...lolJeep Junkie is the first and only person I have ever blocked on a forum. Too bad it only blocks what he writes and not his posts entirely. He is a troll and the community just keeps taking the bait.
Mopar
A 2K oil change? No, No, No and you wont buy a filter? You are throwing money out the window. If you are running synthetic, you can run much longer without issue. I make it a point to change early at "5000! miles" filter and oil.
