Say oil is changed every 2500 miles but filter every 5000 miles. What can go wrong, can the 2500 mile filter contaminate the new oil?
Thanks!

Not sure why you wouldn’t just change both, it’s an added 1 minute of work and $7 to $10, just change both at 5,000 and save yourself some money.

I don’t think it will hurt the new oil but it will not help it.

I relate it to washing dishes in clean water but using a dirty sponge.

The stupid oil filter housing makes me nervous and I want to leave it alone for as long as possible.

Oil filter will still have plenty of life at 2.5k miles. During cold start clean oil is more important than filter which is bypassed due to high pressure.

So right. Oil is unfiltered on startup and high load so clean oil is the way to go 😃👍

the oil filter housing is fine. tighten by hand w a ratchet carefully till you feel it snug up, then maybe another inch or so movement on the ratchet and the filter is tight. wellah no problems. did my v6 this way every 6k miles till i sold it with about 65k on it.
now if u use a 1/2 inch milwaukee and use Godzilla strength to torque it down, well, then you can imagine what will happen.

Why not change them both? Why mix a dirty filter, with clean oil?
Do you change underwear every 2 hours? Unless the filter is older than 6 months, it will still work exactly the same as new with only 2.5k miles

Many Suzuki motorcycles have a recommendation to change filter every other change. It all depends how much usage a machine gets but oil filter will have tons of life left especially with frequent oil changes

I change my underwear every shower though. New shower, new underwear 😁

Changing oil every 2.5k miles is excessive and won't make the motor last any longer but if it makes you feel better and you don't mind spending the money then have at it.

With your change schedule you could wait and change the filter every 3rd oil change if you are trying to save the housing. Of course, if you just went to a normal oil change schedule you could replace the housing when it breaks and still save money over how you are doing it now.

With a saturated filter, the engine won't take 5 full quarts, so keep that in mind. Why not just change it every 5k miles along with the filter? The only reason to change it at 2500 miles, would be if your were driving in heavy dust every day.

You seriously need to see a professional counselor who can help you with your oil anxiety.:LOL:

Either that, or you just make these threads to see how worked up you can make people over and oil related topic.

Soon we will get responses to go by the owner's manual, go by the oil life monitor, to not second guess what engineers with doctorates figured out, and to use Amsoil because it is the cure for everything oil related.
