I tend to not listen to automotive advice given by a person that can't even figure out how to install a cabin air filter. Actually, I tend to think the opposite of what they said is probably the best course.
Yes, use 0W-8 😃👍

It's his first vehicle, so we give him a little slack (and grief). Hopefully not a lot of people follow his Dunning-Kruger effect-based "advice".

All I know is all this just goes to show that the 2.0L is again shown to be the superior engine choice with its already specced 5w30.

Guys, jokes aside, I'm nervous when I'm using this 0w40, that's why I'm doing all these tests. If I see anything out of whack, I will go back to 0w20. My biggest concern is my oil pump crapping out, pumping such a thick oil all the time will have a toll on it. My oil pump must be feeling what a 250 lb, 5 ft 4 inch tall woman's heart feels 🫣

I assume @Jeep Junkie has some thoughts on this, but are you thinking you know something that Jeep's engineers don't? And do you have an understanding of the implications of the Stribek curve?

To be fair, automotive engineers are not designing strictly for performance, reliability and longevity. They have bean counters and government regulations to deal with as well. It's reasonable to assume that those compromises could mean that the oil viscosity recommended is "good enough", but not necessarily the "best".

There’s no going back now! Maybe a 30 grade compromise.

Viscosity is a low resistance path to eke out 1 mpg that is much harder to come by these days. So if they can pump those low load rating tires to 50 psi, go from a 30 to a 20 weight engine oil, run it without an air filter, take out weight that would go unnoticed by that EPA mileage certification tester or whoever does all the mileage ratings…they absolutely will. With integrity these days, it might only take a head nod to know they got your back.

I'm a little surprised that you have to commute. Traffic around Seattle can be brutal, especially with crap like atmospheric rivers to deal with.

I don't see anyone having more fun learning with his jeep than JJ.

Most times I have been there for work, it was wet. Then there was the 5 weeks of the dry season. 🤣
