Hey,

So I’ve read a few things about swapping from 0w-20 to something a little thicker in the 3.6L. I’m due for an oil change and was wondering if I should swap to a 5w and if now is a good time with winter almost here. We live in TN so winter isn’t too harsh but it can get to the double and single digits occasionally. I’m at 58k miles on my stock 21 JLUR.

Also, plan to replace t case and diff fluids. Not sure if myself or the shop will do it, depends on how much they quote. Other than a “multipoint” inspection, is there anything else I should do or check?

Any advice is appreciated!

I just put mobil 1 5w-30 in mine. Great for winter. I would also consider doing your transmission fluid if it's the automatic.

Try to keep the winter grade at 0 if possible. Winter grade is everything before the W. The number after the W is operating grade, this is the one you wish to increase when you say you want to go up in grade. Oil viscosity is a simple sliding window in temperatures and viscosity.

I'm in South Florida, I use Valvoline Advanced Dexos 5w-30 during the summer...during the cooler winter months, I use 2 quarts of 0w-20 (same exact Valvoline oil) and 3 quarts of 5w-30, which makes 3w-26. Whatever oil & weight you use, make sure it says "dexos", developed by GM & Mobil 1 for less wear at start-up...

I assume @Jeep Junkie has some thoughts on this, but are you thinking you know something that Jeep's engineers don't? And do you have an understanding of the implications of the Stribek curve?

But Engineers also say follow the oil life monitor while running the crappiest MS-6395 0w20 out there, change the coolant after 100,000 miles, and never change the transmission fluid 🫣🫣🫣
