Just cleaned my Jeep and I can’t believe I never noticed this, but there is under spray on the top seams of rear tailgate hinges. Not sure I want to take it in for this. Probably just touch it up myself or let it go. More upset at myself for not noticing this at delivery. Just wondering if this is common?

Yes. As noted above, paint jobs are shit on Wranglers.

Thankfully, my hydro.is better than my Hella which had missing paint and CC drips.

Since getting warranty work done is such a hassle and quality of work seems to vary widely, has anyone just skipped that process altogether and LINE-Xed their whole exterior?

I’ve got a 2019 JLR, in mojito and I love the Jeep and the hinges have no issues(yet), but the passenger door edge has started to bubble. I’ve got 57,000 miles on it, so unsure if I’m still in warranty.

Thinking it might be better to LINE-X(or similar or better product?) the entire exterior now VS dealing with warranty BS and then sweating the workmanship and whether the issue will just pop up again.
Just wondering if anyone else has considered the same?

Line-X won't stop the corrosion. You have to separate the two dissimilar metals, by putting a barrier between them. That is, after you sand out the corroded areas. Then, you can safely Line-X.

Here's a complete Line-X https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/full-external-line-x.60314/

And you would have to isolate the hinges from the body to avoid corrosion as mentioned by DaltonGang

My Hydro, built Feb 15th, 2022 sure looks like there might be a thin "gasket" between the hinge and the door.

Anyone know if Jeep made a recent design change?
I have heard about that too from others.

Has anyone seen or posted pictures of the new change for the doors?

I am also thinking about going the Line-X route. It's not just the bubbles in the paint. My paint is so soft if you look at it too long it will fall off. 🤣. Also thinking about getting a wrap but eitherway still need to figure out how to get the corrosion to stop. Hopefully my dealer will have the parts soon. Wondering if they made any changes to try and correct the bubbling in the hood?

When I was in for an emissions recall a few weeks ago I pointed out a very small blistering on the rear tail gate hinge and I said not to worry about it quite yet since I’ve only had it for 4 months and to see what else pops up, but she insisted on taking pictures and submitting them. Two days later she calls me and says they’re approved for repair and that they’ve ordered new hinges. So today I’m dropping mine off to leave it with them for the week. They don’t have a body shop either, they will take it to who ever it is that they use. It’s nice that I didn’t have to fight for the fix but rather they kind of forced it on me LOL.
Really sucks that these Jeeps need these fixes at all and that it’s such a curse for so many to get it fixed, just plain stupid!

Just checked out my 2021 I received mid-October ...if I remember correctly. There doesn't appear to be any gasket between the hinge and door.In fact, I'm not sure that there is any paint either. It may have primer or some sort of coating, but it's not the finish coat. It looks like they spray the finish coat over the assembled units with nothing but some sort of corrosion coating between the two different metals. I think the aftermarket will come to the rescue with some clever designed cover...to hide it.

Sounds like you have a competent dealer that cares. The issue that I am having and most of the other people are having is that we are dealing with crappy dealers. Jeep dealers in my area (Begen County NJ) will not even help you on warranty paint work unless you bough the Jeep from them (they do not have to either since dealer are indelepently owned and operated). So they take care of there own, but it is such a hassle to work with Jeep on this that they do not get involved if that is not the case. So I am stuck with trying to get my dealer that I bought it from (Paramus Jeep on Rt.4 in Paramus, NJ) to just do their jobs correctly and they cannot do that. They did send it to a 3rd party auto body shop and that shop took 40 detailed pictures with chalk circles with notes and everything, but they did not submit those pics and only submitted 3 pictures that they took. One is my odemeter, one is my interior ,and one is a single hinge. So Jeep approved $1500 to fix the one hinge they submitted a pic for and the auto body shop estimete is for $7k because it is everywhere. So I call Jeep and they tell me this and I offer to send the auto body pics, but they only will work with through a dealer and they tell me to go talk to the dealer and have them send the rest of the pics. So I go down the the dealer and explain that and they tell me that Jeep is wrong and they submitted everything and nothing more they can do and they will not show me what they submitted or work with me anymore. They explain that to get it fixed they have to pay the difference and they are not willing to pay that expense. I am then literally escorted out of the building. So they make it out like Jeep told them to "go F-ck them selves", then they tell me to "go F-uck myself", and then I am just the person at the end of the "Go F-ck yourself" line and just cannot pass it along and wash my hands of it. So it is sad that I had to hire a lawyer and sue Jeep and the dealer just for them to do their jobs correctly. I am not looking for $$, literally just suing for them do to what they are paid to do. It is a f-cking joke....

When I asked the dealer an honest question what normal do in my position they told me some hire lawyers, but at that point I might as well pay for the paint job myself because I am going to spend the money on the lawyer anyway. They also suggested for me to just pay to the work myself and try to get Jeep to reimburse me on my own. So you can understand why I was escorted out of the building at that point. They just want to beat you down and hope you go away. they are trained on this I am convinced. When this is going on in the dealer I look around and everyone there that works for the dealer has there head down staring at the desk, they probably hear this argument all day. So after having my Jeep for 2 months and not getting anything done, I asked if they could leave it outside while I drive my in laws car home and take an uber back to get and they asked if I could park it across the street at the restaurant parking lot because the sales team will complain it is taking up a spot. There parking lot was empty and had like 15 empty spots. So that is what I am dealing with.

I still can't say for sure, but really looks like a black "gasket" in there.

On a related note, Hydro is such a beautiful color. There's a ton of metal flake there. 😁

Maybe someone with a new White one can get a better pic with more contrast.

Yep, every hinge on my Jeep looks like that and can see raw metal in some spots. I also have a few fisheyes. Jeep could careless.

My parents JLU Sahara is the same.
