Since getting warranty work done is such a hassle and quality of work seems to vary widely, has anyone just skipped that process altogether and LINE-Xed their whole exterior?

I’ve got a 2019 JLR, in mojito and I love the Jeep and the hinges have no issues(yet), but the passenger door edge has started to bubble. I’ve got 57,000 miles on it, so unsure if I’m still in warranty.

Thinking it might be better to LINE-X(or similar or better product?) the entire exterior now VS dealing with warranty BS and then sweating the workmanship and whether the issue will just pop up again.
Just wondering if anyone else has considered the same?
It’s the route I intend to take years down the road.

Washed the jeep over the weekend and noticed small bubbles in the paint at one of the rear door hinges. I am over a year and have roughly 27k miles. They are hard underneath and the paint is not loose and pretty sure they were not there last time i washed the vehicle. It cant be rust under the paint since the doors are aluminum. All other hinges are fine. Has anyone seen this issue?

I am very concerned about this issue. I have just noticed several areas. I would like to know who to contact to get this resolved. I spent a lot of money when I bought my 2018 Wrangler Rubicon JLU, brand new, with as many people having this same issue, I would think JEEP would be responsible to take care of this. Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

I still can't say for sure, but really looks like a black "gasket" in there.

On a related note, Hydro is such a beautiful color. There's a ton of metal flake there. ?

Maybe someone with a new White one can get a better pic with more contrast.

Well, what hot dang, They finally decided to put a.gasket between the pieces of metal. It only took them 4 yrs of warranty work, to figure out that spending $5 on gaskets, might save thousands on warrants claims. I credit this Wrangler Forum, for lighting the fire, under their butts.

So they have changed the painting process? They have always painted the door with the hinges already attached. Doesn't look like they are doing that any longer? ?

Looks like selling Hella for Hydro may have been a blessing in disguise.

When I asked the dealer an honest question what normal do in my position they told me some hire lawyers, but at that point I might as well pay for the paint job myself because I am going to spend the money on the lawyer anyway. They also suggested for me to just pay to the work myself and try to get Jeep to reimburse me on my own. So you can understand why I was escorted out of the building at that point. They just want to beat you down and hope you go away. they are trained on this I am convinced. When this is going on in the dealer I look around and everyone there that works for the dealer has there head down staring at the desk, they probably hear this argument all day. So after having my Jeep for 2 months and not getting anything done, I asked if they could leave it outside while I drive my in laws car home and take an uber back to get and they asked if I could park it across the street at the restaurant parking lot because the sales team will complain it is taking up a spot. There parking lot was empty and had like 15 empty spots. So that is what I am dealing with.
That is the dealer that we got our Jeeps from as well. My wife's red JLU is fine so far, but my Mojito! JL has some bubbles around a couple of hinges.

Maybe I will try the other dealership they own (9W in Englewood Cliffs) to see if they're willing to do anything with mine. Mine is a lease, so I guess if they decide to not fix it, I can just turn it in at the end and it'll be their problem anyway. I'd hate to do that though, because I really love this Jeep.

Hey Guys, I guess you can add me to the list. I'm so pissed!
Just found Rot/Rust on the front of the hood and the back hinge (Top & Bottom). The door hinges look good, couldn't find any on those....yet!
You can see the lack of paint around the hinge, so bad!!
I have an appointment to have a dealer look at it on Monday in Haverhill Ma.

Questions:
-What should I suggest they do to try and fix it? New back door and hood?
-Paint the back door with the hinges off, paint the hinges then assemble?
Special paint?
-Can something be put between the hinge and the door?
-New hinge bolts?

Thanks guys!
I'm really hoping all this can be fixed, I'd hate to get rid of it.
I'll get back on what the Dealer says and update.

thanks,
Mark

Hello,

Im new to this forum. I honestly found it while looking into the oxidation issue on my wifes 2018 JLU. I noticed some bubbles on the bottom edge of the hood a couple days ago. My question is, has anyone tried using nylon counter sunk shoulder washers on the bolts that attach the hinges to the doors? I plan on taking the hinges off and cleaning, painting and putting some form of either thin rubber or decal type of plastic between the hinge and door along with adding these washers.

This is the type of washer I found that I'm thinking might work to isolate the aluminum from the steel screw.

https://www.google.com/shopping/pro...&ved=0ahUKEwi125T3-bb3AhW8q3IEHXvKDEEQ9pwGCBA

around $1 a piece but definitely worth it if if fixes the issue.

Thanks,

Tom

There is actually a TSB that outlines the repair procedure for this issue. The extent of the corrosion will dictate whether you get a repaint or a new panel.
Interested in how DeLuca handles this for you. I'd also be interested to know how many cases (not many, a lot) of corrosion they have seen and repaired under warranty.

I'm new to the group. Has anyone removed their hinges and coated the aluminum doors with something(gasket, primer, sealant, etc)and bolt the hinges back on before the paint started bubbling? I'm thinking tis may be easier than waiting for it to start corroding. It seems every wrangler jl will have this problem at some point. Thanks

I read the TSB for corrosion repair and it seems JEEP wants to repair the paint without removing the hinges. This makes no sense to me. If you don't remove the hinge and put something between the steel and aluminum, this will never end. I'm trying to see what I'm missing from reading the bulletin. Thanks again.

Yep I got the bubbling.2020 Jeep Wrangler sport sting gray 11000 miles. No bubbling in November 11/21 after a good wash and ceramic maintenance ,get her ready for the winter. I also power wash undercarriage after snow storms. Noticed bubbling during my spring maintenance wash 4/22 around tailgate door hinge and on passenger door driver side on the seem very odd spot to start bubbling. The good news is I leased to buy, I have the diesel and didn’t want to buy it out right in case of issues. Bad news is I really wanted to keep it. Brought it to my body shop and the tech said dump it. So I will be calling my jeep dealership and have them repair it but I will not be buying it. Real shame.
