Bubbles in Paint at Door Hinges

I feel like @JeepCares should be looped in on this thread. At the very least maybe they can help the people not getting help from their dealership.

It also would be nice to get clarification on what the warranty coverage is on this.

Also maybe they could let the higher ups know the problems and discontent this is causing.

Thanks for the reply. My dealer attempts to deny warranty for everything they can, and I suspect I'll get the same treatment. Any time I point them to threads such as this, they just claim to not care about these forums, other dealers, or any other owner experience.

I just came back from another dealer and they had no problem submitting a claim. I am just amazed that the dealer I bought it from would not even make a claim. Now I will have to wait to see if Jeep will cover it.

I have a 2019 silver - took it in couple of days ago and made an appt to fix all four doors and hinges.

One issue raised - guy told me they will do their best to match the paint but it won’t be perfect since they will not be blending it - apparently the ‘blend’ effort is not covered by the corrosion warranty.

I've had two doors and my hood repainted for the paint bubbling. They actually blended it very well. I was especially concerned about the hood since its higher and more visible. Can't tell its been touched. The dealership I went to uses and privately owned body shop. The hood and door repair color matches but is smoother than the factory paint. The average person will not notice the subtle difference in paint smoothness since they don't know what to look for.

the paint looks great. And it has been torture tested already. They did a nice work.

I am being told since there is not a hole in the door, the corrosion warranty does not cover it. I am off to see another dealer and see if they will help out.

Technically, they are correct but it seems that some dealers will repair it if it is just surface corrosion.

From the warranty guide:

This warranty covers the cost of all parts and labor needed to repair or replace any sheet metal panels that get holes from rust or other corrosion. If a hole occurs because of something other than corrosion, this warranty does not apply. Cosmetic or surface corrosion, resulting, for example, from stone chips or scratches in the paint, is not covered. For more details on what is not covered by this warranty, refer to “section 3.5”.

Correct; any repairs Jeep is paying for for this issue are "good will" repairs, not warranty repairs per se.

Still waiting to hear from the dealer on this issue. I had them document and send to corporate for evaluation in June. Are others waiting a long time to get an answer?

without reading 94 pages, has anyone tried preventative repairs before the corrosion gets out of hand and without getting the dealer involved?

Jeep better get this sh$t fixed from the factory ASAP!!! I'll lose my mind if I buy a new $40k+ Rubicon and my paint starts bubbling!!

To me this is like saying we are not going to fix your axle because there is nothing wrong with the engine.

Repairing the paint has nothing to do with the sheet metal. Folks are not taking their jeeps in because the metal is bubbling up, they are taking them in because the paint is bubbling up.

Seems like bubbling paint falls right into what is covered

It specifically says defects do to factory perpetration. They did not correctly prepare the metal near the hinges and that is why the it is corroding and the paint is bubbling up.

Furthermore, I would not be asking them to repair the metal. Id be asking them to repair the paint. Two different things. The paint is not damaged due to use or road chips. It is damaged due to poor factory preparation.

I haven't gone through the whole thread, but read the last few pages. Has anyone gotten a remedy that will prevent this from happening after it's fixed by a dealer?

Also, any response by @JeepCares? This is a known issue and has been going on for years. Can't believe there's not a remedy. They'd just prefer to kept repainting parts?? I'm FRUSTRATED!!!! Paid $55,000 for a 2020. It has 12,000 miles and it has corrosion. Crazy!

You only spent $40,000….you’re getting by cheap! Candidly there is nothing we can do about this matter except avoiding the brand in the future…. Getting mad at a dealer won’t do any good….
