While giving her a wash and wax today I realize I have fallen victim as well. 6/8 door hinges, both trunk hinges, and one bottom of a door all have corrosion. Have a dealer appointment next week. 18 JLUR and over 36K. Hoping for the best at this point but a little upset with this coupled with the fact my gps thinks it’s 80 miles away from actual location. Tough when your dream vehicle lets you down.

They should be doing this for all affected panels. Factory painted and trimmed.
I have to go back to get better pics of the hinge paint that is bubbling and re-submit, but sounds like they are open to correcting it as well.

The dealership just called about the paint bubbles I had on both drive side doors. My paint bubbles looked very similar to what Awarner8 was showing on their doors around the hinges. Dealership decided it was easier to replace the doors entirely than to repaint.
That’s two recent instances of panels being replaced vs repainted. Interesting.

What worries me about that is the paint matching!!

If it's a basic color, white, black, Red, Tan, Matte Grey, etc... It will be easier to match.

Mojito, Burgundy, and the blue are probably the hardest. I wouldn't even blame the shop.

I pick my colors on how easy they are to paint match. Come damage time.

Got my Jeep back yesterday. They replaced a couple of the hinges from the doors. So far the job looks pretty good. They didn’t replace the ones on the hood tho so I will be taking it back. Hopefully they just reorder those as well.

I wonder if removing the hinges, putting a thin layer of marine grease on the backside of the hinge and where it mates to the door would have any effect on minimizing this issue. Also squirting grease into the hinge bolt hole/applying grease to the hinge bolt threads. I may do this to my JLU when I take delivery in a few weeks.

Anyone making anything like these for the JLs?

No one makes anything like this but yes you should definitely get something on the bare metal to protect it from corrosion

Hey GraniteJLU,

We certainly understand why this may be concerning. We suggest having your dealer inspect this concern, as they are in the best position to provide assistance. We are also available via private message if you would like any additional assistance during that process.

It's not a matter of matching, it's the fact that for most of the panels being replaced the rest of the vehicle has been subject to sunlight for several months to years and some fade has inevitably occurred.

Didn't want to point out the obvious, so thank you for doing that!
Luckily, for ours, I ceramic coated it the first week I got it, and it's kept inside quite a bit.

I've considered doing this too... just getting some thin gasket material to separate the hinges. I was going to paint them, but someone mentioned that would risk getting the repair denied should the rust come back. I'd rather do gaskets that I can remove easily.

I also emailed them a few months ago asking if they can make anything like that for the JL and I never received a reply!

Looks good!!

The reason they might’ve not changed the hood hinges is because the JL hood hinges are glued and so the hinge and the hood have a very strong bond and it would probably be extremely difficult to remove without damaging the aluminum.
This fact was revealed earlier in this thread by multiple people being unable to remove the hood hinges after unbolting them.
