So I just got mine done. Also a 2018 but I submitted the claim in October before my warranty was up. They actually replace the whole door because technically there is no way to stop it once it starts. They now put a titanium shim in between the door hinge and the door itself. You could get it painted like they did to mine the first time back in 2020 but it will almost always come back. I would just leave it until it gets really bad, like flakes off.
Hopefully they painted the area under the hinges and seam sealed the hem flanges

I'm aware of the TSBs. My comment was in regards to whether this particular shop followed the repair procedure. Some dealers are still just sanding and repainting

For those here, that are reading this thread over, please take part in the poll regarding this issue. It would be nice to have an idea of the percentage of members who are plagued with the Galvanic Corrosion(Bubbles in Paint) issues. So far it is slightly over 61% with Corrosion. Maybe, some day, someone at Stellanis will give us a long term warranty on this issue and fix it permanently.

I have bubbles again. Hinges and the hood. This is the third time it will need to go in. Different spots again. Dealer is saying Stalanis is slow to respond as they have staffing issues.

Bubbles appeared on the bottom driver's side hinge on my 2018 JLR, seemingly overnight. My Jeep had been always garaged since I first bought it. Yesterday, got caught in a severe rain storm. Not sure whether there's any correlation, but I don't recall seeing the bubbles there prior to today. The other hinges are fine for now.

I've owned my JK for 15 years. I'm starting to look into JLs and not overly excited based off a lot of things I'm reading. I think I know the answer but just want to confirm that there have not been any significant improvements to prevent corrosion aside from the zinc door hinge spacer. Correct? Ie no improvements to door, hood, or tailgate/tailgate hinge paint process to reduce corrosion. Correct?

I enjoy detailing my vehicles and my Wrangler is no exception. I have my fun with them but bubbling paint would drive me nuts. My JK has not had issues other than from my own rock chips for what it's worth.

In June of 2023 brought my '18 Rubicon Unlimited (40k miles) to Fields Jeep in Glenview, IL for rust on 6 of the 8 door hinges. The repair was approved by Jeep and I was told "You are on the list, but sit tight it might literally be a year to get it fixed due to parts shortages."

The rust got worse over the year, and I called Fields monthly for assurances that this was actually getting done. Finally, in May 2024 they called to tell me I'm booked for August 21st. I dropped the car off as directed, was told to expect 4-6 weeks, and was given a Grand Cherokee to drive. (Gotta say that GC is a very nice drive.)

I picked it up on September 27th, and it looked perfect. They told me they replaced all 4 doors and the hood, and essentially repainted the entire Jeep. I obviously didn't see how much they repainted, but the paint hasn't looked this good since the day I bought it.

I know there's a ton of dealer horror stories out there, but Fields got it done right for me.

Did you have an extended warranty or you got this repaired for free despite your Jeep being out of the normal warranty period?

I did not have an extended warranty, but they told me that it was covered because I originally brought it in to be looked at within the original corrosion warranty period. It didn’t matter how long it took to complete the repair, brining it in within the original time limit was the key.

I was not aware that the corrosion warranty for the doors was 5 years, but luckily I brought it in 4 months before the expiration of the 5 year period. No idea what would have happened had I missed that date.

I shudder to think the cost of parts and labor to replace 4 doors and the hood. $15K? I realize it’s under warranty and Jeep isn’t paying retail for their own parts..

For the guy that has brought his Jeep back multiple times you should look into what protections you may have under your state’s Lemon Law. 3 times seems like 2 times too many to me but hey..
