Competition is good for both Ford and Jeep. As for myself, I'm a Jeep guy. Growing up, I never really saw Broncos, but I've always seen Jeeps (actually, as kid, I vaguely remember the whole OJ thing, but I had no idea what type of truck he was driving, and quite frankly, didn't care). In WW2, my grandfather drove a Jeep and my dad always wanted one (but never got one, but he enjoys the heck out of me driving him around in it). Jeeps have a heritage that can't be denied and also a HUGE aftermarket. Sure, there are those, like Consumer Reports, that pans most Jeep products, and I'm sure there are those who don't like turbo engines (myself included). But there will always be a market for these types of vehicles and those who overlook some of the short comings for the adventure and uniqueness it brings. If competition makes both brands better and more reliable and competitive in price, then we all win.

I'm not a fan of electronics for electronics sake and Ford seems to be indulging the tech crowd. Tech like that doesn't have a place in a vehicle that can be left with the top and doors off and be subject to moisture or even direct water. I've said it before, I love tech and can't wait for the prices of some second hand Tesla's to come down, but that's a car that is made for tech. These off roader's are made for the trail. (However, Ford knows that only a small fraction of it's demographic will actually use this off road, just like Mercedes and Range Rover, so they're going to push the luxury tech end). I mean, the interior also does not look like it is meant for months or years of outdoor, roof off, doors off use. But those seats sure look nice with the weathered leather treatment. It reminds me of a pair of worn and faded jeans.

Jeep will have to seriously option out it's Wrangler to compete with the on road, look at me, I want to be cool crowd. And I'm okay with that if that's why you bought a Jeep. So the Sahara has to have it all. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if they throw in a wood grained dash and massaging and ventilated seats... (will it ever end??)

Slapping a big, honkin' engine isn't only what Jeep needs to do to keep the existing faithful, faithful. It's got to stay fresh and bank on it's aftermarket and parts advantage as well as the heritage.

Here's an idea (and I know that Jeep corp watches these threads, so take some notes):

1) create a heritage edition Jeep, call it the Wrangler CJ. This sub-model will have a center mounted speedo (like the original CJ's) and be a bare bones, go anywhere ute. Or, it can be a trendy, look at me, let's have fun model. Why not throw in some flat fenders while you're at it?

2) offer factory packages to existing Jeeps for about the same price as the factory option. For example, I have a Sport S with the base radio. Offer the tech package that can be installed at the dealer or even better, a dedicated Jeep/Mopar branded garage that only does these types of retrofits. Maybe offer a Rubicon package that includes lockers and detachable sway bars. Even if only a few Jeeper's buy this, it again shows the off road community how incredibly modular and versatile a Jeep is. To set it apart from the aftermarket crowd, because I know some of you will say, "there's already shops out there that do these kinds of mods," it will be fully factory warranted and can be included with your remaining financing (that is if you still have months left on your loan).

3) push, Jeep did it first. As the pioneer in the off road game, Jeep has claim to many advances in the field. So when Ford pushes it's removable doors and tops, Jeep did it first. Locking axles, Jeep did it first. You get the picture. The other bit of humor Jeep can bring is to utilize the fact that the Bronco rides on Goodyear Wrangler rubber. They can meme, "Under every Bronco there's a Wrangler." "Wranglers tame Bronco's."

These are just some fun ideas I had after watching the reveal. Who knows, when I actually see one in the flesh, I might be tempted, but for now, I look forward to birthdays and holidays when I know that someone in my family will give me a Jeep accessory to put on my rig. And that's why we are on these forums and are so loyal anyway: we make the Jeep OUR Jeep. No two Jeeps are alike and that's what makes owning a Jeep so great.

The " Practical " features of the 2 door Bronco are well thought out, and aimed directly at what Jeep didn't give us. More interior room, split rear seat, modular hard top side windows, vinyl interior, marine grade vinyl seats, half doors, plus
A/C standard, LED lighting, standard.. I don't care for the electronic dials for 4x4,, and the wimpy 30" tires on the base, but tires can be changed, and electronics dealt with.
I certainly will be test driving this when it actually makes it to dealers lots in 12- 18 months.
Thank you Ford. You have forced FCA to make Jeeps better values for its hardcore fans.

I imagine 35s will be available on Rubicons from the factory soon, that will give jeep back some of the "best in segment" stats
If FCA put the high fenders and Rubicon springs on the Sport to accommodate 35s it would swing the argument right back into their favor. Then they could do something special for the Rubi with a taller suspension and gear it to run 37s from the factory. I think both of these would give them a healthy leg up on the Bronco without a severe cost penalty.

The dealerships only order a couple of 2 doors so that they don't have to worry about them just sitting on the lots.
Maybe depends on location. The local dealers had a fair amount of 2-doors back when I was shopping, now they are in short supply. They had a fair amount of 4-doors and still have a fair amount of 4-doors.

Had a few Broncos (73 (bad ass), 78 (behemoth), 94 (Ed Bauer), and am impressed with Ford designing toward the old bobtail version. Cool truck, but hopefully a bit of pressure on Jeep to stay active. Love the body mounted mirrors, and the doors look cool at first blush. Just hope it isn't a plastic-mobile for the sake of competition. Had a FJ Cruiser that was amazingly reliable, but never really challenged anyone as it wasn't a Wrangler, it wasn't a Grand Cherokee, it wasn't an old school FJ.., it was just kind of...., under powered and under marketed.....

Liked my old Bronco's, still wish I had the 73, but also love our two Rubicons...

Happy for Ford, I hope it is solid, well powered, and well supported.

Maybe a nice V-8 is in order for all of us : )

Thing is, Bronco production is scheduled to start in April 2021. Even if you get your reservation today, by the time the first Broncos hit dealer showrooms, you navigate through dealer markups and fight it out with richer buyers, you are unlikely to get your Bronco before a year from now.

That Wrangler 392 has better chances of hitting dealer showroom sooner.

You keep saying this, but I think you are mistaken. Production starts end of this year and April 2021 is when it will be available in dealer showrooms. If I'm not mistaken.

If Jeep would wise up just a bit.....they would offer a Rubi with 35" tires ( and a NO RUB suspension) put some decent skid plates and sliders on it......and a few other nice tricks. These things would not need to cost them that much.

Instead, they make everyone go to the aftermarket for these things that could be original equipment......and expect folks to swallow this chit. When I bought my Rubi....I knew I was going to spend another $10 k in aftermarket chit to get it up to desired standards of these times. Just ridiculous. OH.....and then they had to piss me off with some bogus price increases on metallic paint?? Not good biz practices.

As said......they don't listen well. Still.....I think many folks are a bit rabid right now.......and some level of sense will return. It's a tough line to walk.....if you want to make a decent profit in the auto biz. That 2 door Bronco is not especially cheap when "properly equipped."

The Ford webiste has a note under every photo that says Mid-2021 availability. I would be surprised if they are at dealerships in April. The "sport" version will be available much earlier though.

You are mistaken. The reviews online speak of an April 2021 production start.

I wonder how easy or difficult it will be to lift the new Bronco.

The most common complaint on Toyota Tacoma forums, besides the atrocious automatic transmission and driving position that is, was from owners struggling with front alignment issues after lifting their trucks.

It appears something about IFS makes lifting those trucks a bit tricky. I don’t know if this is something unique to Tacomas or common on all IFS trucks.

Definitely worth looking into before dropping several grand on a new Bronco that then becomes difficult to modify.
A little harder than a Jeep, it really comes down to aligning the angle of the cv joints by dropping the transfer case in most instances.

the A arms look large enough and someone will come out with offset upper control arms to provide more flex if ford performance parts hasn’t already.

I so much agree with you. I spent $8,000 on my 2” Synergy lift, Warn winch, Artec skids, aux lights, and 315/70/17s and now have 2” more clearance than the best stock Bronco. Rather than spending $$ replacing existing parts it would be so much easier and cheaper if this could all be installed during manufacturing....and Jeep could easily reclaim the top position....while generating more cash.

Was that video accurate? You can only get the manual in the 4 cyl?
based on the order guide it appears so. The two top options show 2.7 with auto only. The others show either engine with optional 7 but only available on the smaller. Huge bummer.

suspect the wrangler 392 will also only be available in auto.
