Any chance you have those spring numbers? My XR with factory winch seems to include the correct front springs, finally (IMO). I was at 21.50" (front) shock eye-to-eye.

Same on mine with XR winch front springsMy XR with factory winch seems to include the correct front springs, finally (IMO). I was at 21.50" (front) shock eye-to-eye.
Sorry, old habit. For some reason I had those in my spreadsheet as a JLUR.
Nope, trust your gut; you were right, anyway (those were JLUR XR). I keep getting sucked into these 2 door threads forgetting I no longer have a 2 door.Sorry, old habit. For some reason I had those in my spreadsheet as a JLUR.
I've been waiting to see what application 68540221 is used in (yours are 68540220). They might be a slightly taller version of the JLR XR spring... or maybe they're rear springs (like 68540222 - 68540225).
Got a 21 regular Rubicon. Thinking of installing some 3/4 spring spacers since I already have them but I also need shocks. Would XR takeoffs work ya think? Here are a few generic shock eye-to-eye lengths that I've been using. These could be +/- 0.5" (or more...) depending on the Jeep, but are a rough average of where each one sits.
Model Front shock eye-to-eye @ ride height Rear shock eye-to-eye @ ride height Sport 18.5" 21.2" Rubicon 20.0" 22.5" XR 21.0" 24.0"
Maybe, but a spacer is a guaranteed 3/4"Got a 21 regular Rubicon. Thinking of installing some 3/4 spring spacers since I already have them but I also need shocks. Would XR takeoffs work ya think?
I was meaning the compressed and extended length compatibility.Maybe, but a spacer is a guaranteed 3/4"
Sorry, I misread the first post. Yes you can use XR shocks, but you should also adjust the bump stops to match their compressed length. I have 392 Fox shocks on my JLR with +1" bump stops. The front endlinks might be a little too short also, but I've had it totally flexed out without issues (still might be worth watching/changing)I was meaning the compressed and extended length compatibility.
Np. Thanks for the feedback. If I have the compressed regular Rubicon shock measurement from your spreadsheet, just add the difference between that and whatever shock’s compressed length I end up with is and add that much bump stop if I understand correctly.Sorry, I misread the first post. Yes, but adding bump stop to run different short stroke stock shocks is not something I'd do. The xr shocks still only have 8" of stroke despite the same compressed length of most aftermarket 1-3" lift shocks that have 10"+. You can run metalcloak rock sport shocks with the same amount of added bump stop and 12"+ of travel. Why leave 50% of potential suspension travel on the table for no gain? The rock sports dampening is very similar to the stock Rubicon shocks so the ride will be basically the same with way more droop.Np. Thanks for the feedback. The fox shocks may ride better than rocksports, that I don't know. I have run both the stock xr shocks and rocksports and they ride very similar. If you're happy with it that's all that matters. Personally I'd trade 50% more suspension travel for the same money even if the ride quality wasn't quite a good. In reality I spent twice the money on fox 2.0s on this Jeep so I got the best of both worlds, improved ride quality over stock and a lot more travel.I got my 392 XR Fox shocks as take-offs for $300, and it was about $125 for Metalcloak bump stops & take-off XR endlinks... so about the same cost as the Rocksports. I'm fairly certain they ride better than the Rocksport shocks, and I know they're much better than my stock Rubicon shocks, even at OEM Rubicon height.
I didn't lose travel, I traded it for ride quality.
I called Metalcloak and they recommended the 5100’s for only a 3/4” spacer. I can’t swing the Synergy 1” springs I had on the other JL right now. Based on the stock springs with a 3/4” spacer, and looking at any shock below $700, the only options where I won’t lose flex seems to be the 0-1.5” lift 5100 and Fox 2.0 monotubes. I liked my Foxes I had before I took over the wife’s Rubicon. The economy is kicking our butt and I’m just trying to maximize my maintenance dollar.Yes, but adding bump stop to run different short stroke stock shocks is not something I'd do.
