6 speed manual comfort

I test drove a new JL manual. As an enthusiast of manual transmission- I felt the throws and shift feel was good. The bad was the soft clutch and LACK of a place to rest your foot in between shifts.

I realize this isn’t a Porsche Carrera (I own one with the 6 speed). But I found it hard to get in the flow of shifting without a dead pedal.

Are there any dead pedals you could suggest.
Did they add one for 2024?

Unfortunately, the dead pedals available for the JL are for automatics. There is no room for a dead pedal with the manuals.

Bronco manuals have more space and have the dead pedals…

With the ongoing clutch recall, I think a 2024MY JL will be an interesting find. If you get a 6MT, you'll get used to the feel of the clutch. It takes a little while.

No way I’d want my Jeep to be wider. It was annoying at first but you get used to not having a dead pedal. I just got back from a 600 mile trip. Didn’t even notice it.

I didn't know what a dead pedal was until I joined this forum. I don't think any car I've owned has had one.

My '02 Civic LX came with one from the factory.

Same. I’ve never had a dead pedal in any manual vehicle I’ve owned. I just put my foot flat on the floor and am comfortable.

The lack of a dead pedal never crossed my mind ( and I've had modified s/c Mustangs, Corvette Z06, E60 M5 al manuals).

The stock clutch definitely can be improved so I installed a CFII in the Jeep along with 4.88 gears.

Have been Jeepin ever since.

On very sporty cars like BMW or Porsche- it’s a must. You basically keep your heal under the clutch on the floor and have your foot resting on that dead pedal. It’s effortless and muscle memory.

it just wasn’t comfortable. I could get used to the clutch but there won’t be much speed shifting here. Maybe the point.

i bet Jk didn’t have it either. I think the automatic might just make more sense at this point…

Never needed one on Jeep Wrangler. Foot is on the floor, speed shifting? Haha not in my 2020, the angle of the seats and leg seem like it would be uncomfortable in the Wrangler with a dead pedal.

We’ll definitely do not want to draw your attention to it negatively- but a smooth shift is easier with a dead pedal. The act of lifting a foot rather than just moving it makes a difference if that’s what you are used to doing.

Get an auto. It will "speed shift" for you. Don't think all the early drag racers who truly did speed shift...ie...no clutch used...had a dead pedal. Just saying.

Wranglers and speed shifting! Words that don't fit together in a normal sentence. The JK series Jeeps were even slower shifting with the longer throw than now.

I've had some pretty sporty cars over the years and racecars (with and without deadpedals).

At first it threw me off on the JL, but now I don't even notice it and shifts are smooth and quick. It's not something I would let get in your way of buying one.
