I just had the recall flash done on my jeep. I guess I have to state that if their new "gear display" is any indication of their software V&V process - I think things may have just gotten worse. Has anyone else noticed the "6" is leaning backwards? Has anyone else noticed the "1" is different than the other instances of 1 on the dash... and the 3 is squared off at the top instead of rounded like the other 3's and the 4 is completely different than the other 4's. How can ANYONE miss that? If they could screw up like that on the user display, then what other screwups happened in the firmware along the way?

The 1 for the 1st gear indicator does match the 1's that show up in the Digital Speed display I believe.

mine is I versus 1. Subtle but different.
Even on the digital speed? Maybe it changes based on the "Theme" of the infotainment system, but the 1 on my digital speed also appears as a I.

Not trying trying to make fun or anything but shouldn't you know what gear you're on if you're driving manual? I would understand if it was an 8 speed manual transmission but we're only talking 6. Speed/revs should give it out, or at least it has always been the case with me on most vehicles. If it's for aesthetic reasons then I would understand.
So I didn't read past this, but basically, yeah. You should kinda know how fast you're going if you've driven the car a while. I don't drive with my eye on speedometer (in any car). I just kinda know how fast I'm going. I also don't care what gear I'm in as long as it's the right gear, but maybe that's just me???? If you're not over revving or bogging the engine, does it matter? Sorry, I'm a couple glasses of wine and few beers in, so maybe I missed sarcasm somewhere :beer::beer:

I'm the same way as I seldomly know what gear I'm in. If I feel like I'm lugging, shift down. If I feel like I'm revving, shift up.

It is a different font. How does it matter?

It's almost as if I titled this "How to tell what gear I'm in"...I've never owned an automatic vehicle, all 9 of my vehicles have been manuals, theres no issue with knowing what gear I'm in. It's a feature that I've had on most previous cars, saw they had it for automatics and wondered if the manuals had it.

And the upshift light in my tj was brutal. If I listened to that thing I'd be in 5th gear going 30mph
its for fuel economy LOL

right you are. So then the original dash display was all different fonts, because if you look at the odometer the numbers are different from the gear indicator, and also different than the speed screen (personally don't use that one). I guess I am ocd a bit.

i just got my JL Manual yesterday - and tonight i noticed the gear # right above the odometer - i see this is a super old thread so maybe the earlier JL's diddnt have this but the 21's do.

i have to say driving this for a couple days - the gearing is amazing, 4th gear on the highway doing 65 mph im at +/- 2500 rpms....i have no idea when ill ever need 5th ... let alone 6th!

I easily do 5th on the highway at 60 mph and 6th at 65 mph. (with 4.10 stock gearing).
Since 5th and 6th are so similar, If I am upshifting from 4th at 60, I go to 5th and if at 65 mph, I go directly to 6th from the 4th. It does not make sense to go 5th first and then 6th.

I test drove one at a dealership and I was doing 55 in 5th and the salesman told me, "You have one left". I left it in 5th as it felt right. I only really get into 6th IN FLORIDA on the freeway doing 75+.
