To all the guys mentioning it gets too hot have you done anything to allow for better airflow? Opening the top hood vents or removing/replacing inner fenders for something breathable? I also have a 18 2.0 nearing 40k and I’ve opened my hood vents seems to help some during the summer.

Ford makes a 2.7 twin turbo that has 330 horsepower, 400 ft. lbs of torque and will last 200,000 miles easy if you take care of it. How about the Subaru 4 cylinder 2.0 Turbo that will easily last 200,000 plus miles.

So, there is really no reason Jeep can't put a 4-cylinder Turbo engine in the Wrangler that will last. My 2017 Ford 2.7 pulls a trailer every day and I run the heck out of it. And I traded in a Subaru WRX with 240,000 miles that was run hard.
The boxer engine is a great design, my partner has owned three or four of them.

I had plans to mod my plastic vents, but I like the aluminum ones Motobilt came out with a few months back. No longer being in Texas and putting far less mileage on my Jeep has knocked this down the priorities list quite a bit for me.

Seems heat reduction from opening the vents is mostly anecdotal. There's a ton of threads on it, but I don't know how it could really hurt, especially at idle or off-roading. Plus, my compressor is under the hood, so keeping that cooler is another benefit.

My 18 JLU w 2.0L (Italian origin motor) blew the head gasket at 87. Have the Mopar service contract. Has been at dealer over 2 weeks with no update. Last they said they have to tear down to diagnose whether it needs just head pulled/machined/repaired or new motor. Is this motor going to make it to 200k after repair?
No it won't.... oh wait 100% yes it will...
There , you have you answer.

Other countries have made a science out of small displacement turbo engines... It seems all the major auto makers can do it... sometimes the "its just a Jeep thing" shouldn't apply. I agree with you, there is no reason that Jeep can't keep up with the rest of the pack.
For example: I just sold my Ford Focus RS... a 2.3L ecoboost turbo , 350+ Hp / 325+ torque ... and it was the most exciting driving car I ever owned... it would beat the Suburu WRX boys and keep up with the new corvettes all day... mechanically, I never had an issue... if Ford can do it, along with everyother Asian manufacturer, I would think Jeep could handle the task as well... ???

Four bangers utilized in large vehicles have been an issue for decades, especially if turbocharged. Yet, the old Jeeps with non turbo, and proper gearing, seemed to fare just fine.
Not an argument, but what are you basing your statement on.

I would say it's just the opposite...
atleast in every other Asian County producing these types of cars...
they've been using them in every County almost exclusively except for American... which is where I think the problem truly is...

Americans want bigger, better... but we don't want to sacrifice for it... Americans want all of the comfort creatures... while the Government wants stricter emissions... and both want it as cheep as possible, which creates our current market.
So yeah I can see the challenge to make an American 4cyl-turbo car... that can last, but thats based on the overly bloated American attempt. It seem the rest of the world is doing it just fine...
*as a note: the old Jeeps... a.k.a. "Dumb" Jeeps will always typically run/last longer than the newer "Smart" Jeeps ... just look at just the electronics alone and then add safety equipment and emissions... your comparing apples to oranges IMO.

it’s 1995cc turbo motorcycle engine, pushing around a full-size jeep. No it’s not gonna last 200K as you found out..
Ahh yes, the extremely common 2-liter bikes. Now with 5,700 RPM redline.

I base my opinion upon owning a dealership for ten years. Your assessment is correct also. The well designed 4 banger in a lightweight vehicle has the potential to go the miles.

I mean... OP's first post says "been at dealer over 2 weeks with no update". Not exactly a good look in this thread.

Lightweight is the key word here. Any time you try raising power output or adding weight, the reliability will potentially go down.

A JL is a hell of a lot heavier than a Subaru type crossover or any other little s***tbox car.
