I'm pretty sure the viper engine fits under the hood. A 392 is cool and all but imagine the scream of that v10 coming out of the back.this post made me go look at the LS Swaps .... Im getting ideas
It did not overheat - I changed oil and saw orange buildup that I thought was coolant - resovoir was low but not empty. Stopped driving it and made appointment. They said there was coolant in the oil when it got to the shop.I mean did it overheat? Normally
head gaskets don’t just give up.
Not sure that I did anything to it. Certainly I drive it, and I tow a 2k lb camper with it in the summer but nothing that I would have expected to cause failure. I have changed the oil and used the specified grade, used 89 gas, even changed the diff fluid at least every year. Like I said in another post, I first noticed coolant (never a puddle) when I was under it changing the oil. CHecked the black reservoir (cause why should I be able to visually inspect the level without taking the cap off, that's just silly) and it was low but not completely gone. It's winter here and the heat still always worked. Never had a temp light or issue. Took it to the dealer after that and they said there was coolant in the oil. Have heard nothing from them in the over 2 weeks since it got there and they told me they would have to investigate. Now waiting. I have the mopar unlimited mile service contract and about 2.5 years left on it. Plan was to drive it until the service contract was done but now not so sure. That sucks!
What'd you do to it? It could be a failure point from the factory, but it kind of sounds like a maintenance/driver error issue. The fact that it lasted 87,000 mi before it blew a head gasket is a little bit weird.
Be curious to see what the outcome of the problem ends up being?
Hemi swap has been in the back of my mind since picking my Jeep up! My Jeep currently lives in Michigan about 15 minutes drive from AMW4x4, so I suppose if I had to replace my 4 banger, it would only make sense to go with a *minor* upgrade. ?Wait so I only need to make it to 60k miles before I can maybe convince my wife to let me hemi swap it?!
Sounds like it may just be a bad gasket. Rare but not impossible. I have a 2.0T Volkswagen with almost 200k, tuned and still on the original turbo. I realize it's a different application, and I have replaced a few parts, but maintenance is everything. It did not overheat - I changed oil and saw orange buildup that I thought was coolant - resovoir was low but not empty. Apparently the early JLs have an option to get the fan update, but I don’t wanna do it as I’d rather the jet engine go off than it hit 230 in traffic.the 2.0 has a crappy cooling fan profile, coolant hits 220-230 on a regular. Apparently this was done on purpose because the early profile kept the engine much cooler but people complained about fan noise. This is most likely a contributing factor

It does see 220-230 if I’m WOT from say a heavy acceleration but it goes back down the second i let off the throttle.
I used to worry when towing about getting too hot. I don't think I have ever seen anything north of 220 even when towing in the summer. Fan never ran continuously either.the 2.0 has a crappy cooling fan profile, coolant hits 220-230 on a regular. Is there a way to switch to the original profile? When I lived in Texas, hitting 230-240 was normal, but it always concerned me.the 2.0 has a crappy cooling fan profile, coolant hits 220-230 on a regular.
