Ha, I don't like it either but had no idea it was such a sensitive subject with Jeep people that love to discuss it. Again and again and again. On a techie level I think the go-arounds without spending the $$$ are cool. I like innovation. But this isn't really "wrenching" anymore.
Anyway, if ya like it and it makes ya feel good about your or some 3rd party's device, go for it. I'm just as guilty with all the doo-dads I bolt on to some of my bikes that are not really needed. But "I'" need/want them.

My assessment anything automotive or motorcycle is KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid), #1: my hand on the steering wheel is 5 1/2" from the disable button.

#2: The radio & screen button is 1 1/2" from the disable button. I'm constantly turning on the radio/screen button.

The stress and discomfort (both internally generated and most likely amplified by my spouse) from having an ever-present RED LIGHT on my dashboard (WTF?) would make shelling out a few bills for a disabling device a no brainer.

That quiet low level telepathic disapproval takes its toll over time

I've always been able to contort myself to get under the dash to install wiring for this and that, mainly amateur radio gear, Alas, time has taken its toll and I no longer can do that. So, like Blanche Dubois (you younger folks, look it up) I now depend on the kindness of others...or the power of my credit card. When my JL was in my local shop for its first oil change I had the tech install my Auto Stop/Start device.
Seems we are in the same boat. Waaaaay long time ago, I worked in what was known as the New Car Get Ready dept at a Chevy dealership. Some buyer would choose a new car on the lot but it lacked a radio, power steering, back up lights, etc. I had to get upside down under many a dash to install speaker then radio then associated fuse then front or maybe rear attenta, etc. Can't do it now.

my start stop never worked, till I change few days ago AUX battery. From that dey it works and I have to disable it after each start. But its ok.
Andrew, this suggestion models how @Rhinebeck01 handles this so deference to him.

If you want to have both batteries present why not buy yourself a charger, disconnect the Aux battery, and occasionally charge it only/independently.

You may have specific needs beyond my understanding that justify this but if you're committed to not running ESS events why have this potential problematic Aux battery connected to the main one in parallel such that if it goes bad it could potentially cannibalize your good main one?

Put the charger's leads on the main battery's (that's right I said main battery) positive terminal and the disconnected ground cable and you will, while parked only charge the Aux battery.

If you prefer you could attach one of these amazon.com/dp/B07JZ9NDH2?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_3 between the main battery's negative post and the Aux battery's ground cable, keeping it in the open position, but for service visits.

I have no horse in this race. I run factory (dual batteries and ESS events) and have a roof rack for other reasons on which sits a solar panel that charges both the batteries of my outdoor parked Wrangler.

Great info in this thread, thanks for documenting and explaining it all fully! I dislike ESS and don't want it increasing engine wear and sometimes forget to push the disable button, just a matter of time until I disable it and remove the secondary battery. Need to decide on my method and plan a bit of Jeep time. :)

Having done this on 21 sahara since new, I want to point out that the ESS cluster light will go out if you press the ESS button even with the hood pin disconnected, I know you are basically doing the same exact thing as turning off the ESS, but instead of the Jeep shutting off at the first stop light before you remember to hit the button, now you are reminded by the cluster light, then you just hit the button and it goes away.

Ok we get it. You can afford a tape measure and a fancy finger but still can’t pull off a start stop device. Run along now and go be poor somewhere else 🤣🤣🤣

on my 2024 with ~17000 miles i have not had auto start work for a year or more..I have done nothing to disable it. when I scroll thru the screen it always says disabled cabin heating or cooling....says that even when I have the fan off and the a/c off and temp constant....basically has not worked since having it for warranty work where they replaced the ECM due to O2 sensor issues....I know they should not be related. Voltage on the dash always seems in the proper range.
I have a very similar issue, or non issue. ā€˜25 Rubi X w/ about 7.5k miles. Picked it up in Feb. At the time the ASS worked and I only had to push the button to disable. PITA but you get used to it. A few months later I noticed I no longer had to ā€push the buttonā€. Didnt really care, everything worked and I didn’t have to deal with the ASS in my face. Then one day I noticed the same your ā€œASS is unavailable cabin heating or coolingā€ (paraphrasing) message. I live in Az where the overnite temps are 90 and daytime is 100-110 so the AC is running its A$$ off. The one thing that drove my (& my boss Mrs Me)crazy with her Grand Cherokee is when her ASS (the Jeep u perv) would kick in the AC would go off. It gets toasty real fast at a 4 min red light in 105 degrees with no air. So did Stelantis actually figure this out and disable their ASS when the AC or Heater is running? Or…is this a fortunate mistake that’s saving my A$$ & my marriage (side note I wanted the Rubi so we got rid or wife’s beloved Grand Cherokee with 0 Issues for the JL)? Don’t know, don’t care. Life is good, so far, here in the Az summer heat when my ASS doesn’t turn off my AC. I’ll never know if this works when I’m running the heater because we’ll….Arizona.
