I’m looking to disable this and have done some research on the options. The two devices I have found are the Tazer products and the smart Start Stop Device. Are there any other options? I read JScan won’t do it.

@bobchadwickga

JSCAN does not do the deed in an acceptable manner. Yes, Tazer can do..

So many new JL owner's on the forum these days... so I'll mention a terrific product offered by Steve, a fellow JL owner, a very decent guy and a Forum Sponsor @SmartStopStart.com

Forum message Steve @SmartStopStart.com and ask him to please sell you his offering for $100..
He always oblidges...

In 2018, the SmartStopStart unit was the very first to market in regard to such a unit for the JL. Yes, even before the Tazer JL...

The SmartStopStart never hiccups... works every time...

For those that do not want to push the ESS button all the time .... that want an easy to install product that works properly all the time... never ever hiccups, do consider a SmartStopStart unit.

Do know that when you go to the dealership Service Department it takes about two minutes, for you to very easily remove the SmartStopStart unit you installed with an extension cable.

Start reading here:
https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/fo...s-the-way-it-should-have-been-designed.13946/

Note: A Tazer JL can deal with ESS also.. SmartStopStart unit is far less expensive, so if all you want to do is deal with ESS go with a SmartStopStart unit.

Avoid knock offs of the SmartStopStart as they have a way bigger footprint, lesser quality and are known to hiccup on occasion... AND ... the SmartStopStart is easily resellable when you no longer need it... knockoffs are hard to recoop your $ on..

--
Disclaimer: I'm sure guys/gals hearing me go on and on about this offering think I am a paid promoter of SmartStopStart.... but I am not. I'm just a SmartStopStart fanboy that knows just how terrific the offering is. Yes, this offering is that good and well well worth every $ you pay for it. You can buy for $100..

If you find use for the other features that the JL Tazer products provide then it may be best to purchase one of them for not simply keeping your engine start stop off, but the other features they offer. If not, consider the SmartStopStart unit from forum sponsor Steve .... @SmartStopStart.com. You can, I've read, message him and ask for a forum discount.

He's not the least expensive seller of this tech and I think some of the claims of competing tech being problematic may be overstated or perhaps vendor specific.

As you point out Jscan technically doesn't have this capability, but I believe documents a workaround method that involves disabling a hood open plunger, as ESS won't engage when it senses of hood open event. This approach produces an ESS off light in the electronic vehicle information center (EVIC; i.e. your dash), which, if you can tolerate, is "a" way to go, but some in the know here feel it's best to not have that light on all the time as its illumination under normal circumstances can reveal vehicle situations needing servicing that its constant illumination can fail to disclose.

As long as you are turning ESS off, I'd greatly advise, if you have a dual AGM battery JL, to bypass the ESS/Aux battery (information on how to do this available on request.) If you have that battery in your JL implementation, it is more trouble than it's worth having IMHO for those opting out of ESS events.

Thanks guys. The smart start stop unit is my first consideration mainly because I don't anticipate ever needing the capability of the Taser.

Just wanted to make sure there weren't other options that I should be considering.

Consider along with the SmartStopStart unit to install a ZAutomotive Security Gateway Extension Cable. Do not buy a knockoff of same...

Makes life so much easier lets say. Buy the extension cable and you will only have to fool with the security gateway connectors once..

Remember, you will want to remove the SmartStopStart unit before dealership Service Dept. visits.

There are two types of these cheap Amazon options, I have discovered. One connects to under driver's side dash. Instead, get the one that connects behind control panel where the button is. Kit comes with pry tool if you don't have your own. Whole thing takes 5 minutes, works perfectly, Amazon free returns, 'nuf said.

Amazon.com: UltraEra Auto Start Stop Eliminator for Jeep Wrangler JL 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022 2023 2024 2025 Gladiator JT 2020-2025 Auto Stop Eliminator Engine Auto Stop/Start Disable/Plug Play Car Accessories : Electronics
Jeep Wrangler JL Auto Start Stop disable options? 1765037403351-82

Now, the Chinese should be banging these out on Amazon for $20 like for every other car I have gotten these for, but for some reason cheapest for jeep is now $50 less discounts (I paid $39).

What I don't love about this one is that it turns the switch 'on' within 3 seconds of starting the car. I would much prefer the kind that simply remembers what you last used. That way you can turn the switch off before taking it in for service and the tech won't know you have one installed. Then again, if it takes 5 min to install, logic dictates a 5-minute removal.

No way .... Not if you gave one of these Chinese knockoffs for free would I install on my/a JL or JT.

I'll pay the $100 for the original SmartStopStart.

...AND.... I know when I finally no longer have my JL that I will easily easily be able to sell the SmartStopStart I used for years for about $50-60.

So, buy the SmartStopStart ....an offering from a USA, forum sponsor.. ... a JL owner ...
An offering that is known to never hiccup. An offering that does not require you to pry open things. An offering that is about 8 in in length/very small footprint..

@3cah
@anyone

Curious.... Please tell me why ..... Why would you knowingly / with forethought, go with a knock off and not buy the First to market SmartStopStart offering at the same price ($100) from a fellow JL owner, a USA guy... a forum sponsor.

Thanks @SmartStopStart.com / Steve, for being a long time forum sponsor and for a terrific product offering!

Makes absolutely no sense to me...

I already have it. Waiting for a nice day to install it. Not looking forward to it as I remember how difficult it was with my Gladiator.

Sent Steve a message asking about the forum discount. I decided on this over the easier (in my mind) switch add as I plan on adding the SGW extension cable anyway. Adding/removing Steve’s unit will be a cinch.

I just ordered a SmartStopStart as well. Steve gave me a nice forum discount.

I recently had the aux battery go out on me in my 2018. I did the bypass and now everytime the Jeep restarts at a stoplight, there is an audible static/crackle. Not sure what that is. Very annoying.

I usually turn off the ESS, but don’t always remember. Glad to have found this thread.

It's just the speakers complaining when the U-connect is interrupted for the fraction of a second. This is one of the reasons for the aux battery. Not a good enough one to keep it, imho
