on my 2024 with ~17000 miles i have not had auto start work for a year or more..I have done nothing to disable it. when I scroll thru the screen it always says disabled cabin heating or cooling....says that even when I have the fan off and the a/c off and temp constant....basically has not worked since having it for warranty work where they replaced the ECM due to O2 sensor issues....I know they should not be related. Voltage on the dash always seems in the proper range.
Mine not working turned out to be due to a faulty IBS. It's a symptom that something's fucked up with the electrical system (beyond just a bad design).

I did the hood switch ESS off solution for a while. It gave the Alert light between speedo and tach, and remote start worked. After getting a Tazer for other reasons, I used it to turn off ESS and plugged the hood switch back in. The need of a Tazer for other purpose is the only reason I stopped using the hood switch solution. You get used to the Alert and ignore it.

Andy, in short and simplified, it sounds like the ”hood switch method” is a gloriously craptastic idea.
Sub-optimal might be my less harsh way of seeing things here. :)All the techniques seem to have their pros and cons. If I've done my job I've helped people see the why so they can decide for themselves how to proceed.

Other than wheels, lift kits and sometimes those ducks I believe disabling the auto start/stop must be the most popular beating-a-dead-horse thread that I sometime read here. With the success's of fuse deletes, battery deletes, etc as well as the Tazer or other after-market devices. And failures as-in "gee, now other stuff is not working correctly".
I have found the perfect no-cost and most reliable device called "my finger" to disable. It's located barely a couple inches from the factory button that turns it off. Somehow I've been able to live with it on the last 3 (of 5) Jeeps that I have owned.
When social media became the defining feature of people's lives, they began posting ever more extravagant photos, videos and accounts of how elite, wealthy and so much better than you they are. Spending money, usually LARGE amounts and going over the top on everything became the preferred way of living. I believe this is the issue with the stop/start. Unless it requires large expenditures of money and numerous contortions and parts, pushing the button is reserved for the "Poors" and the other lower classes.

I like stop/start but I usually just push the button when I get in my Jeep or sometime down the road. $0 spent.

Anything battery or start stop related has likely already been answered correctly by @Rhinebeck01 or @Jebiruph years ago In the stickied threads in the battery talk subforum.
I'm sorry Terry but this needs perspective. No doubt have both these guys done their share of explaining and deserve credit for that but are not in the same bucket.

Simply stated: we are all students of Jerry @Jebiruph here, deference to ESS battery removal (not directly the subject at hand) being @Rhinebeck01's.

Jerry gave us the original fused jumper technique between N1 and N2, and then upgraded it to the Fuse 42 pull thereafter. All the rest of us have done, at best, is help explain it in terms the less technical can understand.

...and again zero problematic ESS batteries removed.....

That’s an interesting take.

My Jeep is one of several vehicles that I normally operate. It happens to also be the only with a button to keep it from shutting off at stops. I’m old school, I can’t stand the damn thing shutting off at stops and also don’t believe it saves any considerable amount of fuel and also adds more wear and tear to the vehicle.

I simply am not going to remember to hit the damn button on every start so I went with a device to disable it without any warning lamps so the vehicle operates the way I want it to. Was it free, no. Am I better than someone who chooses to hit the button for free every time, hell no 😉😂🤷🏻‍♂️

I pulled one of the hood pins (along with the aux battery, cables, and fuse 42) and am comforted by seeing the @! light, as I am then assured that this hateful system will not operate.

I for one surely appreciate the in depth and thourough explanation you provided. It has given me answers that I needed to make my choice as to how to proceed with this "problem"............Which I see now is being addressed by the Administration and a possible (roll back) of this whole "start/stop" BS.

Mark, after your brilliant and funny post above, I will christen, and henceforth call the switch: The Bourgeois Button.

My apologies if this has already been addressed. This is a 7-year-old video. In the photo from the video, we are looking at the hood plunger switches of a JL/JLU. The guy in the video says all one must do to permanently disable ESS/ASS is to remove the plunger on the right, and the video shows how to do that. Is this legit, and if so, why not do this instead of disconnecting the ground from the ESS/ASS battery and removing fuse #42?

Here is the video:

My buddy did this on his Wrangler...not sure the year or model. He said the only "downside" is the warning lamp is always on. I used one of the commercial products and my auto stop/start lamp is always on.

I believe disabling one of the hood pins also disables the hood alarm if you have that feature activated.

X35.....You need to take a trip to the beach in No. Carolina. I suggest Sunset Beach as I live on the mainland behind the island. Sounds like you gotta be much younger than me and flexible as I was not able to get that SmartStopStart device hooked up myself. Damned near got myself "stuck" under the dash as I tried to come in from the passenger side and lay upside down over the console to get myself to that wiring. It was about 90 degrees out in my driveway and I was the only one home. Somehow I got unstuck and back out and my wiring fix is in a box in my garage and I'm stuck pushing that damn button.
My new ride is also a 2025 Willys. If you are ever in the neighborhood, and could get mine fixed up with that new harness, it could result in you getting a case of your favorite beer and/or other drink of choice. At 83 yrs old, I just can't do what I used to do when it calls for the contortions needed to do such as this. :)
I've always been able to contort myself to get under the dash to install wiring for this and that, mainly amateur radio gear, Alas, time has taken its toll and I no longer can do that. So, like Blanche Dubois (you younger folks, look it up) I now depend on the kindness of others...or the power of my credit card. When my JL was in my local shop for its first oil change I had the tech install my Auto Stop/Start device.
