OK so I just got under 8,000 miles on my JL Rubicon and "SMACK" a rock hits my windshield and puts a foot long crack in it. Is there a better quality windshield for the JL Rubicon than the current PERMA PLATE (HA-HA) that comes from the factory? Something that is actually on the market and not in a magazine article. Looking for experience please.

I saw a Lite-Brite video where the couple said they bought an aftermarket windshield and it has held up better than the OEM. I never located it online.

BTW, my windshield made it to about 6000 miles before some huge rock hit it and mega cratered it. Sounded like a bullet hit it. I haven't replaced it since it's out of my view on the pax side.

A few threads on this. I will be going on my 3rd windshield in 10mo. I requested an “aftermarket”. I will update down the road in the other popular thread on this subject. Haven’t heard anything really promising on this subject lately.

Thanx, Yes I found some other threads and it seems to be very common that these windshields get replaced often. there doesn't appear to be a better windshield yet. It looks like Mopar does offer Gorilla Glass windshield for the JK. Its 2020 don't know whats taking so long to get one for the JL

For some reason, my old tj takes more hits than my jl ever does. And the tiniest stone makes a star. In my jl, I have taken some hits and only left a tiny dot/knick. No star, no spreading. That being said, any flat windshield is not going to fare well. Invest 10 bucks in a diy chip repair kit, comes w 2, and u may be able to seal them up before they spread. Saved me several times

Unfortunately this impact created a crack at least a foot long and that would not have helped

My crack is 2ft long across the passenger side. Used a drill to stop the spread and the kit to add some sealant into it. Hasn't budged in over a year and sealant helped reduce the noticeability by about 75%. I expect to get better with practice. :)

Optic armor can cut a windshield if you provide the specs. They won’t cut a windshield for a “Jeep” branded vehicle if ya get my meaning. They are still committed to FCA for mopar branded products.

Id expect it to be flat with no curvature like the OEM product.

I’m pretty bummed my windshield was chipped (I heard the chip but didn’t see it) and it spread over a foot within an hour and that’s after applying a windshield chip sealant to try and minimize further damage within 30 mins of seeing the crack. These windshields suck.

They list a JK windshield for $480.
