  1. Install notes (and pictures!) for Yaesu FTM-500 dual-band ham radio

My installation is mostly another variation on the themes above. I did make a “horseshoe “ like tunnel bracket for the main body that went over the floor vent to allow it to remain unrestricted. I molded it out of Kydex with about a 3/4 inch tunnel. I attached the front to the vent using a...
  2. Install notes (and pictures!) for Yaesu FTM-500 dual-band ham radio

Do you recall the screw size and pitch that mates to the back of the controller head? I have a screw that seems close with a 32 pitch but can’t seem to get a good match up for the size. Planning to use a RAM mount or similar to the RAM track in the tray place.
  3. Install notes (and pictures!) for Yaesu FTM-500 dual-band ham radio

I have already ordered a shielded CAT 6 based on your experience. I do appreciate the advice. I’ll post an update when I get it together. 73 Ki5QJL (the JL was a coincidence)
  4. Install notes (and pictures!) for Yaesu FTM-500 dual-band ham radio

It was in the QST product review in the January 2024 edition. 1/2 way through paragraph 6. Just below the measurement summary box.
  5. Install notes (and pictures!) for Yaesu FTM-500 dual-band ham radio

I thought it was in the QST article, but it doesn’t jump out at me looking at it again. It was mentioned somewhere along with the programming cable that could potentially brick the whole thing. I’ll post back if I can find it again.
  6. Install notes (and pictures!) for Yaesu FTM-500 dual-band ham radio

Has CAT 6 cable worked ok? I have read mixed opinions about using it vs The branded version.
  7. Great Customer Service Shout Out to KE at Northridge 4x4

Short and sweet shout out to KE in the Northridge 4x4 customer service department. She facilitated a warranty claim with a major vendor in an exceptional and expedient manner. I went in, not expecting anything. I wound up with an exceptional customer experience.
  8. Do you rotate your spare into the mix when rotating tires?

You should still be in the game. That’s just shy of 19k miles. That’s 2-3 rotations in dog years.
  9. Saturn ran a red light. Good times.

Airbags and seatbelts let bad drivers live to maim another day.
  10. Ducking Suck or Sweet?

Here’s my duck story that I hope you will find encouraging: I’ve had my JL since 2019, almost new 2018. I had never been ducked until the end of last October. It was 3 days after my world came crashing down around me because of a tragic event involving one of my adult children. I was a walking...
  11. 0w20 more engine wear?

Here’s a magic trick: want to turn your 0w20 into 5w20? Let your engine run for about 60 seconds on a cold start. The viscosity modifier starts to coil almost immediately when the pressure from the pump (it’s a temperature/pressure thing). Don’t just start and drive…nurse your $50,000+ for...
  12. If I get windshield replaced by non-dealer ...

Just replaced with generic product <$300 installed. OEM option was a little over $500. I have a $1000 deductible. I can replace 3 generic for less than 2 OEM and have money left over for a new sticker of a Jeep running over Sasquatch.
  13. LOD DESTROYER SERIES ROCK SLIDERS

They also offer superior protection in the jungle we know as the Walmart parking lot.
  14. Trailer brake controller without factory tow package

Am I correct in thinking that the wireless Curt unit has to have a hot wire to the 7 pin plug, but the blue brake controller wire does not have to be connected? The controller adds the blue output using power from the hot feed?
  15. Adding Brake controller to 2018 JLUR

So, I finally got the Mfg instructions to download and it makes sense to me now. I will have to install a powered 7 point, without the blue controller activated. The existing 4 pin will plug in for the rest of the inputs. I think this is the route I will take.
  16. Adding Brake controller to 2018 JLUR

thank you for your reply. I don’t think I understand what this is. If you have the 7 pin already, why use this? I don’t want to tie into the vehicle wiring does this draw power from the hot point on the vehicle side of the harness and use inertia sensors to control rather than the brake wire?
  17. Adding Brake controller to 2018 JLUR

Do you have the factory tow package? I don’t and etrailer only listed for the factory equipped vehicle. Am I missing something that should be obvious?
  18. Experience pulling a Casita

Thank you for your reply. I’m not a maverick when it comes to trailers. I’ve witnessed and rescued many unfortunate souls from accidents and mishaps that were self inflicted by getting into safety margins that should be avoided. WD hitches are really neat tools, but you must understand that the...
  19. Experience pulling a Casita

2018 JLUR 3.6l with 8sp automatic. Anticipated tow load about 3000# with a couple hundred in/on the vehicle. I’m looking for experiences but would like to get an idea of tongue weight, direct hitch or weight distribution hitch. Im on the gulf coast so it will mostly be relatively flat land but...
  20. Adding Brake controller to 2018 JLUR

Vehicle is not factory equipped with tow package. I presently have a CURT brand light harness (4 pin) installed I am looking for recommendations but prefer not adding the accessory package with the auxiliary buttons.
