Winch Shutoff Switch at Battery

I just realized my winch power cable is unprotected if it shorts. My Smittybilt X20 pulls 400 amps and I rarely use my winch (so far only to operate it for winch maintenance) so I’d much prefer a disconnect switch rather than a fuse. I’m considering Flaming River 500 amp switch.

What all are you using? Pictures would be greatly appreciated!

I have the aux switches, so I use this Warn solenoid with my Badland Apex winch, and operate it from the AUX3 switch. Warn 62132 Winch power interrupt kit, about $90 depending on the vendor.

Just a note if @JasonInDLH decides to go this way, you can get either the solenoid by itself from Warn, or the "Power Interrupt Kit". Since you don't need the switch from the kit if you use Aux, just comes down to whether you have the other connectors/wiring laying around:

I run a solenoid and a Battery terminal fuse.

Every aux. power wire I install has a fuse in it.

I'd rather my plan to fail than fail to plan.

That's a nice fuse setup, hadn't seen that. Blue Sea Systems?

I don't know why but your sharpie label on that switch has me cracking up, it reminds me of the mount on top of the NASA 747 they used for space shuttle transportation

Thanks, it's really not all that bad compared to a standard larger fuse block, and great form factor.

Less than $40 on amazon for the terminal and fuse. Went ahead and ordered one.
