I had a string of boring Japanese sedans and was looking for an interesting vehicle to drive daily. My only requirements were “back seat”, “interesting”, and “under $60k.”

Jeep is where I ended up. I think I got it right.

Well, in 1999, my wife and I were thinking about a second car that could live on the street in our little college town (WL, IN). I actually wanted an old pick-up truck. I had never had a truck, and I was pushing 50.

My wife wanted a green Jeep--like the ones in Mash (on TV).

Well, we bought a 99 ragtop, which came with a lab-mix dog, who spent most of his ten years with us in the back seat. We are now on our third dog, third or fourth top but still less than 100,000 miles.

We put in a good stereo and just drive around town schooling the Purdue kids on what good music sounds like.

After all these years, I have learned that Jeeps are like cats. You don't own one. My Jeep owns me. When she is not parked across the street, I look out the window and think, "Someone stole my Jeep."

We like to offroad and explore old mines, mills and ghost towns. The lil critter flat tows great and can go practically anywhere. It’s just a practical ride once you eliminate the start/stop junk and the auxiliary battery.

You own a Jeep. There are always haters every time Jeep changes so much as a dial design. We started with a Liberty ("That's not a REAL Jeep") then went to a JKU ("That's not a REAL Jeep") and now have a 4xe Rubicon ("That's not a REAL Jeep").
All of our Jeeps have been wheeled more than most of the haters. Worse yet, most of that time they've been driven by a, God forbid, female.
How dare we. How absolute dare we.

You own a Jeep.
I was being a bit 'tongue-in-cheek' with that ;).

Frankly, the non-4Xe Wrangler owners in the Cape Fear have been very accepting...lots of 'Jeep Waves' and tailgating to check out the stickers and my spare delete.

I owned a 1977 Scout II to fish the beaches, and when IHC discontinued the Scout at the end of the 1980 MY, my next vehicle was a 1988 Cherokee Classic. After that, a 1999 Cherokee Classic, then a 2013 Wrangler Sahara.
Now I drive a 2018 Wrangler Sahara and use it to drive the local beaches and I still surf fish.

Why? Because I can.

1: to be able to join a forum where I learned i bought the wrong vehicle
2: a flawless clutch
3: no paint bubbles
4. high MPG
5. Zero....like no wind noise
6: about a 40% ROI for Jeep Waves - those 4xE owners I tell ya =)

But seriously. Love the jeep. Dont plan on replacing it, replacing parts more likely. Always wanted a wrangler. Enjoy my XJ as well.

Because I like to explore back country, hunt and fish, and want to be able to get there and back without a problem. When my last Scout (1980) wore out, I went to Jeep cause it was the only option (and Jeep had finally figured out there are advantages to real doors and heaters🙄). Had one for 30 years now…. Probably be my last one as I’ve made a lot of orbits of the sun and don’t do the stuff I used to do as much…

I love my Wrangler. Simply put, despite its limitations, it's fun to drive. It's a tonka-toy, erector set and lego blocks all built into one for adults.

That said: here's my sarcastic/comical response to this thread that adds to the above the things I "love" about it:
  • The fuel economy
  • The aerodynamics
  • The acceleration
  • The maneuvering, particularly around turns
  • The "Lexus sedan feel" inside the cabin when going over less than smooth terrain
  • The standard features, and how practically nothing that has to be purchased separately that on other vehicles isn't included in the base purchase price.
  • The engine start stop system: designed to not work as quickly as 3 days after initial purchase, so as top put less wear and tear on the starter
  • The Auxiliary Battery: not simply designed to fail, but take out the main battery with it.
  • The uninterrupted fiberglass shell like feel of the vehicle in it never taking on water.
  • The headroom.
  • The fact that the few times you actually desire or need accessories for it, the manufacturer's parts division (a.k.a. MOPAR) has such cheap prices and high quality items available for purchase.
;) (Nobody held a gun to my head to by a Wrangler. I don't regret it, and I knew most of the above when bought it.)

Edit: too funny that @FrickinAdam was compiling a similar list at the same time!!

This topic is probably a duplicate from a old one but here it go: So why you have own a Jeep ?

Jeep landed in the family because of my grand father. He came back from the other side of the pond with a bunch of war story and I guess he passed the idea to my dad who got a CJ 7. My dad was having two dream car he wanted to own in is life a Jeep and a corvette, he got the jeep first and never got around to the corvette. I guess Jeep is all you need
Learned to drive on that jeep and later on got a JK and now a JL.

So I guess it run in the family :)
