I am just curious as a Jeep owner coming up on 2 years owning my JLUR and I am curious what pushes others to get a new Jeep beyond the obvious - mileage. Speakly purely to the owners not the individuals leasing (or maybe even to previous owners who switched to Leasing).

Just wondering what drives others to change out a Jeep they have been modifying and personalizing for a year or more to get another one and start all over again. The Punk'n has me thinking about it but not in a super serious way just yet considering the amount of money I have put into my current Jeep to customize it.

I’ve owned eight prior Wranglers. I used to trade them when the factory warranty ended. But between work-from-home, and the runaway price of new Wranglers, I am keeping this one.

In three years I’ve only put 15,000 miles on this Jeep; itā€˜s been pretty trouble-free. An exact replacement would have a $10,000 higher MSRP. So this time I decided to keep it and got an extended warranty for 7 years/60,000 miles for added peace of mind.

The only factor I go by anymore is if the cost of keeping it going, meaning not just the expense, but the time too, outweighs the cost of getting a new one.

I tend to over maintain, so mine will be around for years to come. When things break I always replace with a better quality part, never a cheap part. As cheap parts build up in a vehicle and begin to constantly break, then there is no joy in ownership.

For me to "upgrade" would require at least three major improvements. Some of the reasons why I went from a 2015 JK Sport 2 Dr, manual, to my 2018 JL 2.0T. The next upgrade would have to equally motivating.
Safety ( standard side airbags, improved exoskeleton, rear view camera, rear wiper motor relocation for hardtop)
Fuel Efficiency ( 2.0T, 8 spd automatic, mid to high 20s on 87 octane , that's almost 10 mpg more than previous JK)
Aesthetics ; staying true to the iconic visuals, the 2 door JL aced this

For me, it would have to be a significant change from what I have for me to trade. Unfortunately for me, the major changes that would have me considering a trade are also pretty expensive. The 4Xe in any trip is about 15 grand more than my Sahara was, and that's before options are added. Even more expensive is the 392!

None of the other changes and improvements since 2018 have been significant enough for me to want to make a trade for a 4 cylinder or V6.

I'm on my first Jeep, but I've had several vehicles. Once I hit 200K miles, I just keep an eye on things, and I try to get out before it all breaks.

I take good care of my vehicles, but I consider every mile over 200K to be a gift.

I also try to plan ahead as much as possible. My wife and I both had paid-off vehicles in 2021, but got new ones. Our older ones were aging (mine was an '07 GMC Sierra) but also our daughters ages were a factor. Getting new vehicles in 2021 bought us a few years of not having to think about vehicle repairs for a couple of years*, but also both will be paid off *and* at that sweet spot of used but not liable to break down at any moment - perfect for a 16yo girl to drive. So my oldest gets first pick and then the youngest gets whichever vehicle is left, and then we get new vehicles again.

*We mis-calculated the factory warranties, and both of us started driving more, not to mention the Jeep being so fun that we've taken it on numerous road trips. I'm about to break 30K miles on my 2021, so I'll probably be out of warranty by Spring 2023. Woops. Not that dealerships are that great around here anyways, but the peace of mind has been pretty nice.

Yup. Holding on to this Wrangler is opening up a whole other world of possibilities: upgrading the OE tie rod and drag link with beefier aftermarket components, getting stronger knuckles, etc.

As the old saying goes: old Jeeps don’t die, they get upgraded...

My 1995 YJ had intractable engine issues. It was sold back to Jeep <1 year after I purchased it new. While I hadn't lost my interest in Jeeps after that experience, it left a pretty sour taste. I stayed away from the brand for 25 years.

It was just on a whim that I decided to stop at a CDJR dealer one sunny day in late August 2020 to look at the new Wranglers sitting in front of the showroom.

Three test drives later, and despite not needing to replace the Honda I was driving, I configured and put a deposit on a 2021 JLU. And here I am now, enjoying the reliable new Jeep every day. ?

Former '11 JKU Sport owner, currently '22 Rubicon XR. I would not bother until the next gen Wrangler comes out. Jeep tends to get 10 years out of a general design, often times minor enhancements, maybe something significant (ie the 3.8 v6 to 3.6 pentastar).

I traded in my 2019 Sahara for a 2023 2-door Willys. The impetus for the change was the color, I had to have Reign since purple is my favorite color. If not for that, I wouldn't have made the change.
True, too.

I’ve been known to trade Jeeps for a new fun color. My 2015 Tank Green Sahara is a good example of that. But I find it hard to justify doing it now with these prices.

Thankfully I got Firecracker Red this time. I can find my Jeep from a mile away in a parking lot full of cars, or even in the middle of a blizzard... ?

My daughter has a Firecracker Red 2-door and loves it. It is hard to miss, for sure!

Once your Jeep is paid off, you essentially self warranty. Just put money away that you would be spending on a payment. The vast majority of warranty repairs are under $1k anyway. If the major mechanical parts had a factory defect, it will almost always show up before the warranty expires. A well maintained vehicle will easily go 200k miles today with very few problems.

On the other hand, there are those who trade because of a rattle, rock chips, a new color, a different radio screen, etc. It all depends on what your priorities are in life.

While this is our first jeep, we typically only get out of a vehicle when it no longer fits our needs, or cost to repair and frequency of repair becomes a hinderance, but it's typically just needs.
