Wow- a 6A, only 450 6“A’s” were produced . I hope you kept the unicorn. 5”A’s” aren’t exactly common either , only 7,300 produced.

It was totaled by a head on. Luckily no one was injured. If we knew then what we know now, we would have salvaged it.

We needed a family SUV and my car was older. I loathe SUVs but like that a Wrangler looks better than all the clones. Pretty much it. Got the diesel in an attempt to get a little better mpg.

Mainly from the silver screen culture in the nineties. I remember being a kid growing up in land a far away and saw a Jeep featured in Jurassic Park and I have always wanted one ever since then. It has always been a part of my American Dream.

Then the ultra cool and sexy Lara Croft drives a Jeep Rubicon (first time I was introduced to the Rubicon series) in the movie Tomb Raider. They even have Lara Croft special edition Jeep for sale back then.

Jeeps are so damn cool!

Then the iconic teenage movie Clueless featured the main character (a little less known Alicia Silverstone) driving a Jeep and made quirky comments about her driving (she cannot drive at all - and she also made the Jeep memorable.

Then in 2018 Super Bowl - Jeep came out and introduced the new Jeep JL with their Jurassic Park Jeep commercial featuring Jeff Goldblum replaying his famous dinosaur scene and I am sold.

I got a two door JL and mocked it into a Jurassic Park/World Jeep. And now I am learning how to go off road (to chase for dinosaurs.). I love my Jeeps - its a dream come true.

But it has always been the first Jurassic Park movie that I fell in love with a Jeep!

When my father opened his repair shop in 1962 he found 2 Jeep pickup trucks to use as company vehicles. Someone brought in a CJ5 with a worn out motor and decided it wasn't worth rebuilding, and just left it. Taken as a gift, it got rebuilt when there was no paying work with the parts written off as business expense. There were many CJ3's and CJ5's around back then and their tiny motor and low gearing wasn't really suited for newly improved road speeds (50+ mph on new pavement vs 45~on dirt and mud) and most of them got worn out fast. More people (esp teenage boys) wanted small block Fords or Chevys put in their CJ5's and the shop did a bunch of them, but my dad always considered a V-8 overkill in a 5; no matter how light your foot was, you were going to be burning a lot of gas. The shop's CJ5 soon became the small boat tow vehicle at the shop, but again, the small motor really limited what it was good for, but it was great at boat launch ramps. By now there were 2 functioning CJ5's and a junker waiting for a motor at the shop. Next came a CJ6A minus a motor and dad came up with a compromise idea vs putting a V-8 in it to make a better tow mule. The 6A was already better because the chassis was heavier than the boats it was towing vs the 5's that were close to the boat/trailer weight. His favorite motor at that time was the Buick V-6. He had his brother watch the junk yards for a low mileage totaled Buick Special and right away my uncle found a Special that had been rear-ended by a dump truck. A week later we had a CJ6A with a V-6. A few years later Jeep bought the tooling and you could buy the V-6 in a new CJ. One of the pickups was fitted with a 2 x 12 board to make it better for pushing other cars and the other with a snow plow. The V-6 CJ6A was so practical the other CJ's were sold, but Jeeps were definitely the trademark vehicle of the shop. All were painted blue with white accents and Sinclair dinosaur decals, since that was the brand of gas the shop sold. Later we got a wrecker tow winch and mounted it in still another pickup.

Great introduction to Jeeps! Did you ever tow a boat that didn't exactly follow along as expected? That's not a good feeling.

The old Buick V-6 Dauntless was what they put in Jeepster Commandos back in the day. I think it was originally a Chevy V-8 and they sliced off 2 cylinders.

No, not a cut down Chevy, originally derived from Buick’s 3.5L V8 family. They had the same hp as the AMC smog V8 when introduced and ~55 more than the AMC 6 that replaced it. With performance parts available at the time. Not sure, but I think the late V6’s got a carb upgrade from a 1 to 2 bbl. Buick built both super and turbo charged versions, an unsmogged T-3.8L GNX version could be well over the original 300 hp and should be a simple but fun swap.

Because my beloved BMW 335i hardtop convertible wasn't worth a good God damn on the mean streets and treacherous roads in and around my soon-to-be new hometown of Tucson, AZ and because I didn't feel like like dropping a couple of Benjamins every other month for Dieter to keep the wheels aligned.

I drove one in Hawaii in 2000 and it got 19 mpg and I was like nope. My wife always wanted one and I resisted because of the gas mileage. Started renting them on business trips and had a blast taking the freedom panels off. Ordered the one in own for my 50th birthday and kick myself for not buying one 20 years earlier. I absolutely love driving it, the places it has taken us, and the experiences we have had because of it.

Yeah, 19 is entirely to high for Jeep, but luckily a 2" lift and some 37's will get you down into the lower teens

lol I was joking with my son the other day that the only off-roading I do is when I use the gravel shoulder to go around cars that are blocking the right turn lane.
