Which Dash Cam

I did not take an image. However, mine were pretty easy to tell. The camera powered back on using USB C to the cigarette lighter.

I grounded mine where it looked like you did yours at the metal back below the two large plugs.

Interesting. Did the camera power on directly on its side, or through the GPS module (the little box which is the part you stick to the windshield)

Actually, I tried both locations and got nada. Unless the aux wires are not connected, which we know they are because I have two buttons assigned to off road lights, I should have gotten something. I sent that unit back to Amazon and should have a new one on Friday. This time though. I am not running the damn wire til I know it works lol.

You do have yours grounded to the right hand screw holding the plugs to the bar correct?

Thanks. I’ll try to see if I cannot get this wired after work today. The wife is gonna grab me some butt connectors heat gun etc so I can get it done.

For what it's worth, not sure if this changed for the 22's but my Jeep came with an accessory bag that had butt connectors and heat shrink.

Wife already picked all those up. My did not come with that. If It had, our dealership probably would have stolen it anyway lol

That is correct. It goes through and touches the metal bar on the lower support. I did a ground-check to ensure continuity to the frame (plus it works), so unless there is something weird within 1 MY your should be grounded also.

Does yours seem to stop recording if you are stopped for a min? Mine seems to do that quite often. I am hoping its a setting. I was tired of being hot today so Im done playing in the garage lol. Heat index here was 114.

Nope, mine will record generally reliably - more so than the GoPro I use when I am out wheelin'. I have run into some issues lately similar to @nsfw_andy where it will rapid-flash at me to say my micro SDCard wass dieing. That went away for the most part when I replaced it with a new Micro SDCard, but has happened a couple times since, just requiring me to unplug it from the GPS base and plug it back on to power cycle it. (I can't just unplug the cord because I tucked it right up in the windshield since I had the windshield down to install it.)

I didn't read through the whole thread, but you are using a 5v hardwire kit and not trying to power it directly from 12v, correct?

Was trying to use the hardwire kit they made for it and connect it to the hot, acc and ground wire at the aux switch wires.

Yeah, then probably the hardwire kit is defective or something if you are able to confirm the aux wiring has power.

I don't have factory aux switches, so I wired mine into the self dimming rearview mirror and tucked the small 12v to 5v usb hardwire box under the plastic trim above the rear view mirror. Made it a very easy and clean install without having to run wiring up the windshield A pillars.

I’d assume they have power since I have lights hooked to the switches themselves. Hopefully the unit they send Friday will fix it. If not , who knows lol.

For what it's worth, I had a similar problem on my A129 pro duo that turned out to be the GPS module faulting. I verified it by powering the camera directly with a Mini USB and then through the gps moudle with a Mini usb, it didn't work when I tried through the GPS module, and the replacement module that Viofo support sent did work (has worked for the years since.) Since yours is USBC it should be easier since you don't have to find an archaic Mini USB, but that is the next step I would do to test it.

Did you happen to get a picture of your wiring just to verify? Not to be a jerk with that question, but I'm not joking when I mean it was hard to tell the Aux3 from the ignition wire, although you should have had power through the battery for parking mode.

Where did you wire up the black ground wire to, was it getting good contact with the frame?

Since you dont have a multimeter, test it with a 12v cigarette lighter plug (or whatever 12v accessory you have laying around) instead to see if it powers that device you're testing.

Center pin on the male cigarette plug is positive, the 2 strips of metal on the outside of the plug is ground.
