I had a couple four doors in a row, but I don't often have backseat passengers, and my wife's Compass has similar usable cargo space. Losing a couple doors wasn't too hard of a decision. If we ever get around to having kids, it might get driven a little less, but that's about it.

I know they're not for everyone. They have a lot of... personality on the road. Keeping it moving in a straight line takes a bit more convincing, especially in a crosswind. The ride is bouncier. I could go on. To me, it's the 'core Jeep experience'. I'm not driving it over 70MPH anyway.

I am continually impressed by just how much I can cram in this thing, especially compared to my last 2-door (a TJ). I've only had to take the backseat out once, and that was to haul music gear. The cargo area that the seat creates is usable (unlike the TJ) and keeps things secure.

I'm often occupied, by many things, often at the same time
I read, mostly from people with a four-door, that the two-door is impractical, but I don't really see that. If you need to haul four people, ok.

Otherwise, when is the four-door more practical? The two-door is easier to drive in traffic, easier to park (compact space), easier to fit in a garage or driveway. You can certainly fit four people in a two-door, but if you don't have four people, you can remove the rear seat and take a g/f or b/f a dog and a week's worth of camping gear.

I think people carry too much stuff most of the time, since they have a space to fill. If there was a six-door, 185" wheelbase JLU-U, there'd be people talking about how the JLU just isn't practical because they couldn't get the full-size fridge, freezer and washer/dryer combo and their five friends in the tiny little JLU.

It really seems like the two-door is more practical about 95% of the time, but people are making their decision based on the 5%, not the 95%. The void becomes the vacuum, and it must be filled.

The two-door is more practical than the four-door for almost everyone, almost all the time.

nope, love the four door!
Same! I would not have bought a Wrangler at all if 4-door had not been an option. I do have a kid, but that's not even the main reason. It's more about the amount of gear I have to cram into it every time I take it out. Just my tools and recovery gear alone would take up 2/3 of the available space in a 2-door. Then I've got snow gear, ice chest, backpacks, tents, sleeping bags, tables... It's already a tight squeeze as it is even in a 4-door.

I do envy the breakover angle and turn radius of the 2-doors. But 4-door is good enough for anything I'm ever going to do, I even see plenty of them out on the Rubicon and plan to take my 4xe out there myself later this year.

All valid points. Maybe when dealers come to their senses on these prices, I'll hop into a 2 door. In my case, it would be more practical.

It’s simply about minimizing and miniaturizing. I have no trouble carrying a recovery gear bag, tent, sleeping bag, pad, day pack, cooking stove/gear, table, folding camp chairs, food, ice chest with room to spare.

When I ever get around to documenting my ’build’ I will share some ideas. Here is one… camp chairs. Two of these Cliq chairs fit in this bag… and there is more room inside. Still haven’t taken up any floor space.

I'm at the stage of needing the more doors (3 kids, 11, 9 and 4). Whenever the kids are grown, I will look to drop my 4-door for a 2-door. It might be hard though, as the 4-door gets the fun powertrains. I am loving this diesel. If the 2-door doesn't get the HO Hurricane, maybe I will stick with the 4-door minivan.

I don’t think any version of the JL will get the Hurricane turbo 6. No concepts at EJS have it, no Wranglers at SEMA had it and nothing has been put out or leaked from FCA about it.

I took advantage of their “senses” because they wanted my 4 door. They could mark it up higher than the new 2 door they had in the lot.

awesome CJ-5 you got there. ?
Thanks! Unfortunately had to sell her when we downsized last year. Although I enjoy the simplicity of maintaining fewer vehicles, I also miss the simplicity of driving four wheels with an engine and no fragile electronic voodoo to fail me at the worst possible time. After decades of driving the MB, M38, and CJs, they NEVER left me stranded. The JL on the other hand....

I wanted a 2DR JL Rubi and drove a BUNCH of them in all configurations. When I hit the first speed bump out of the dealership in the 2DR vs the 4 I thought damn.. can I live with this as a primary vehicle. Then when I thought about the additional stability the 4DR's have along with the storage space I need and ability to sleep IN the Jeep. I don't live on the east coast where a tight trail might cause me issues. It was a no brainer.

I would just buy an old CJ for a second vehicle if I wanted a 2DR.

I have no doubt the 4 door is a better quality ride. Storage is one thing I really learned to minimize over the years, especially having a soft top which can be easily accessible by thieves.

As long as the ride is better than my old YJ and TJ which I lived with for years, I can live with it. Just gotta go slow over those bumps!

You can run a lower lift and tires with a 2dr due to the breakover angle but anything over 37's looks weird anyway on a 2dr JL imo. The body style just looks perfect with 35's on a 2DR and 37's on a 4DR so.. breakover angle is moot. You prob get a little better exit angle due to the wheelbase but yeah, it's not worth worrying about. It's been shown the 4dr does everything the 2dr can do, other than SUPER tight trails like northeast with a lot of trees and such.

they do look good with the tops and doors removed and bikini chicks in the back :)

I did test drive a BEAUTIFUL white Rubi 2DR with the 2l turbo that I often dream about....If I knew what I know now I might be in that jeep.
