When we bought the Wagoneer a few months back, the dealer made it very clear that warranty work now only covers defective, factory installed parts. Things like cosmetic issues are no longer covered. Stellantis, and every other manufacturer out there, are tightening the cinches on warranty losses. The problem is that none of them are increasing the quality in order to lessen warranty losses.

What if the sensor is bad due to a manufacturer defect? You can't determine this without taking a look at it.

We are just shootin the chit, there no request by him or me, no paperwork, we are out in the parking lot, not in the bay. He is a good guy, he gave his card and said come see first ever need anything. There were NO expectations by anyone on either side.

LOL "Outraged". Never said or implied anything like that. What I was...SUPRISED!

Lets looked at this thru my eyes:

Tires, Wheels, TPMS are the 3 prime components.

If the TPMS fails what would the cause(s)? Failure of the TPMS due to defect of the unit. OR the mating of the TIPMS to the wheel was faulty due to improper install.

Tire. I cannot identify a PoF (point of failure) linkage to the physical tire based up on OEM and tire SIZE or anything else.

I have used the term OUTRAGE in this thread, Yall have. I had NOTHING to be outraged about. I was driving to the Dealer where I bought my Jeep to on other business, but on the trip there is when I noted the TPMS light. So I walked to the Service folks which I would done anyhow.

My dealer is a very small dealer, I would gone over to meet the folks at the service dept. So I saw the guy and we shot the chit for nearly 30 min out in the parking lot. Good guy. I did not drive there to get anything fixed. MY qestion to the Service guy was: 'what do you think caused both of the TPMS to go on the blink at the same time?' He said was not sure, but most likely what is wrong it just came loose. I doubt Jason the Sve writer and I spoke on this subject for more than 3 or 4 min, most of our conversation was around Jeeps, he is a jeep guy, he drives one.

NO outrage, but suprise that a tire would be the reason for no warranty coverage. All siad to that was: Reall, the tire not being OEM. YEP that is our policy. <that was the extent of the conversation.

For those of you who did not bother to read what I write...17 new Jeeps beginning in 1984-2023 and only 5 times did I go to the dealer for a warranty request:

1 & 2: rear vew mirror showed "ICE warning" in Dallas in July

3: The driver's side rear drive shaft broke, the first week of ownership. The dealer said most likely it would not be covered by warranty unless it showed an mfg defect. Diagnostics showed an mfg defect and they replaced the entire axle assembly. When I asked HOW they knew there was an mfg defect. They said the breakage was RUSTY and showed multiple breaks on the driver's side wich is rare for the primary point of failure.

4: Intermittent short in Right Rear taillight. The ground wire was not connected.

5: Leak in the passenger side foot well. AC drip hose had come loose

To be totally honest the whole thing is a comedy to include the fabrications. I have been on Jeep BBs/Forums since the early 80's and nothing new here.

If you get down to Port Charlotte FL AO, let me know, I got good coffee, good beer and good drinking Bourbon, we will drink to Jeep...

Robert E Lee HS here, AFTER we moved out of the S side, then in '62 Dad retired and we moved to the family ranch and raised horses. This OLD Cowboy';s job was breaking horses and mending fence...along with 3500 bales of hay up in the barn every summer.

Mac Arthur HS in the early 80s. We used to go rodeo at Vic's Arena in Marion. Worked a couple of ranches in HS and college. I joined the Army and when I got out tried to go pro. Learned real quick that I wasn't going to make a living at it it, no matter how much fun I was having.

Jeep isn't going to fix it. The service writer told you it was due to the tires when he should have said it was due to the TPMS sensors being swapped onto the new/aftermarket wheels. You want to argue the point like a lawyer and point out his inept diagnosis. It wont work, even though that guy's assessment was flawed.

ROFLMAO, YOU TOO. I figured out real quick I would never make a living on the rodeo circuit. My problem was I was too tall, too skinny. I got picked up as a 1st Rd draft pick to the '67 Rice Bowl, Hanoi Tech Vs Saigon U. I was a couple of months short of 21 and came in the Army door at 6' 3" 119 lbs.

I did figure out that I could break horse and not get bucked over the top of the barn.

Something else I learned...You only need to do horses ONCE in life!

I guess I got into Jeeps when I was just barely old enough to remember. Grandparents used to take me to Ft Sam Houston and drive me by the motor pool where all the Jeeps were. I guess they got a kick out of my reaction to them, as they would always drive by and point out the Jeeps to me. In those days they would have been mostly M38A1s and M151s.

That was my Great, Great, Grandad. We lost our last ranch between the Great Depression and then the Dust Bowl wiped them out. Dad went into the Horse Army in '34.

Jeeps were just hunting and ranch/farm rigs early on, did not think much about it, the got serious in 67 about my Jeeps...M 151 A/C 1's. Got my first new one in '84 and the rest is history.

LOL, that is not a problem, I have warranty and an appt Mon at 4 to have tighten up at Sams.

For those of you on the dealer's side, try reading this again: The Dealer stated REPEATEDLY it was: "the NON OEM TIRES, 35s do not come on a 2023 JLR, that is a QUOTE!!! He did not care about the wheels, its the TIRES folks...but for $480+ Tax they will cheerfully fix it...

He did NOT place blame on the Wheels or Sam's Club, it was TIRES, wrong size!

He also mentioned the tailgate, I have the 35 there also. I told him I had the reinforced tailgatge option. He said does not make any difference, its a non OEM size and not under warranty if it breaks.

Here we go: 35 x 12:50 x 17:9.50

From the dealer's perspective: You had the wheels removed at some point by you or another shop, touched/moved TPMS, and now your TPMS doesn't work because they are loose or came disconnected, and you think that's the dealer's fault and should be warrantied?

You need to trade the Jeep in and buy a Prius sir. This is just the beginning of your problems ~ 20 year Jeep owner ???

- I say this in jest. But seriously, Jeeps will be quirky with issues, and dealers are generally not helpful. Embrace the faults and you will love it.

So I got 221 mi on my 2023 JLR. I ordered the 4:88 gears and it came with those 33 in tires. So I pick up a set of Fuel Wheels 9.5 in wide and a set of GY DuraTrac 35 in tires and it made a world of difference.

Caught a sale down at Sam's club and they installed the tires on the new wheels no charge and I just paid for the tires and the warranty. Everything worked well and then a couple of days ago the TPMS sensor on the right side blinks and goes out. I happen to be where I ordered my Jeep so I pull in and tell them my passenger side TPMS is not reading.

Service writer comes out and sits in, turn on and says they have just came lose. OK. He then asks if my tires are OEM? NO, they are GY Duratracs, 35. WOAH, you are not in warranty? What is that you say. We don't warranty Jeep with non-OEM parts and we look at you TPMS but that is gonna cost you $180 Diagnostic Fee, Plus the cost of the TPMS that we will need to replace!

WTH, you said they came loose?

Well YES but they are no longer in warranty so you need to put new ones in and then calibrate it.

OK what is the total cost estimate?

$180 Diagnostic fee + New sensors and labor to remove and install, rebalance the tires, figure on another $300 for $480 total.

Well if they were OEM tires they would be in warranty, you are running aftermarket tires and we don't warranty them.

Let me get this straight! This like you telling my water pump has failed and because I installed a Wal Mart air filter then I am no longer in warranty????

Well we prob warranty your water pump I guess.

Yesterday at an Auth Jeep Dealer!

It is really hard to find good help. My friend works at a local tire shop, their 'experts' gouged one of my wheels. You need find a more reputable place, like Discount Tire. I drove 90 minutes to a VW dealer for a wheel alignment, but jokes on me I paid and they never did it. Guess they were too busy screwing up my ABS recall.

If you would have gone with the LT315/70/17 as what is on the XR package then the dealer couldn't have blamed the tire size. But then again it's not there problem. Sam's is pretty good though taking care of stuff like that.

They had damaged some tire valves on a dodge journey my wife had a while back and they paid to have them replaced from the dealer.
