<snip> After having driven a lease with adaptive cruise control, it is so nice for dealing with terrible drivers. I don't have to constantly change my cruise speed when someone jumps in front of me and can't figure out what speed they want to go.
How does it work exactly? The reason I ask is because we have a real issue with tailgaters around here. I have a short fuse when it comes to driving, the exact reason the 9 is under the seat and the ammo in the glove box in case I lose it one day.

In the past, I had found sometimes I could bump my speed up 1 mph at a time every 10 seconds or so and casually leave them back to a safe following distance.

But it seems lately they will be x car lengths off me and after a minute or two, going 85 now, they are still exactly the same distance back there. This..... displeased me as I assumed they were driving by hand and just being dicks.

One of my friends mentioned ACC coukd be the reason.

Didn’t order the package, figured some sensors would be complicated to work with when modifying the jeep.

We live in a day and age where we will soon be required to wear helmets on any activity that requires you to stand up.

The government and big business is now in charge of our “safety and security” and we have to comply on “pain of death”.

The “safety groups” in cars are aligned with that objective for sure. Soon they will be required from the factory, mark my words.

Maybe I should just admit it, I'm a bit too aggressive of a driver for ACC
I’ve mellowed down quite a bit in my driving.

Still, I hate to be dictated by those around me when I can plainly see the average driving IQ to be so low...

I would not carry a tool like that around if you feel you may have an uncontrollable outburst, but I'm not your keeper. ?

ACC could be the cause, they may have their speed set to match or over your own, or they're increasing their speed just as you are. Some people just like riding bumpers. ACC works exactly like normal cruise control with the added functionality of a radar to monitor for objects in front. It will adjust the vehicle speed based on any perceived obstruction, stopping completely (if full brake is attached to the system) or slowing down to allow for the safe distance you established when activating the system. I generally set my cruise at 2 over the limit (sorry not sorry forum white knights).
My toyota is a tiny car and the system is finicky, I had to learn how it operated, what it liked, and how to make it function more to how I like to drive. I turned off lane keep assist, I always set the distance preset to be closest, and set cruise speed over as I said earlier. It maintains pretty optimally with normal traffic flow, and I can stay ahead of most drivers. I only have to worry over the ones who decide to speed up enough to cut me off and then slow down. ? I also apply a little gas to edge out other drivers at times or to insure I am going to clear someone entering the on ramp if I cannot get over.

Kinda glad it wasn't offered on our new build after reading all this,
If they weren't gonna build our rhd I was gonna get her a Rubi and already agreed to have all the safety stuff on it but, again, after reading all this.... really glad it wasn't offered on our new build

Thanks. We grew up with gun racks full of (hate to say it, but loaded) high-powered rifles right behind our heads.

Thank God my physical actions don't mimic the movies that play in my head when some entitled, knucklehead driver does something stupid. Otherwise, would be a rash of shot out tires.

So basically, it will slow you down, but not go over to your preset limit.

What using ACC really says is you rather be in the couch watching TV...than driving...

I understand why lots of people like it, but I personally left off both safety groups off my Jeep. I had all of these features on my Tacoma and have driven several other cars with them and the first thing I do is figure out how to turn it all off. The rear camera is enough for me not to worry about backing up or cross traffic then I am backing out of a spot, and adaptive cruise leaves too much space in traffic and just keeps bumping you back in line. Also, had the sensors on my Tacoma get dirty and engage the emergency braking when it was DEFINITELY not needed. Turned that off right after too. Auto high beams are cool, but I can easily flip them on and off myself. I also had them malfunction in a Cadillac, and it would not let me keep the high beams off until I pulled over and permanently disabled them in the settings.

Personally, the only safety feature I enjoy are the blind spot indicators in the side view mirrors. No crazy alarms or computer taking over and if it breaks or malfunctions, it doesn't hurt anything.

If you will use the safety features, it's worth it and will help resale. If you won't use them, like me, then pass and save the money for mods!

Thoughts on Advanced Safety Group

The advanced safety group is an option on top of the "safety group" option. So it is an option on an option. Why not just put everything in one "safety group" option and call it a day?

With that being said I have both, the safety group and the advanced. I like all of the safety features, but when you stack both of the groups together, it gets very expensive.

I am happy that Jeep makes a vehicle that is so popular and that somehow they get crazy people (like me) to pay a huge amount of money for the Jeep plus all of its options.

Here's my take, (based off other cars, not Jeep specific)

Advanced brake-assist: Must have, should be standard
Auto high beam: Meh, nice but not necessary
Forward collision warning: Mostly good, (if an aggressive driver, frequent warnings can be annoying)
ACC: Mostly good, best for passive drivers or on road trips
Blind-spot/cross-path: Must have, should be standard
Park-sense: Nice, not necessary
Lane keep assist: Depends on programming/execution, but I'm not a fan.

Same can be said about button-activated lockers and sway disconnects, but that's silly, end of the day it's just another tool in the box for those who are okay with nice-to-haves.

i vastly enjoy my advance safety group features. the adv cruise control takes the burden off on the highways and road trips. its collusion awareness already saved me once when a car braked suddenly from a car trying to dart across the highway. bind spot radar is great too if your loaded up with gear. all of these safety add-ons can lower your auto insurance too. i added packages to my jeep that i couldnt do later myself, and have no regrets!

To be honest, most of it is completely unnecessary. Our Grand Cherokee has all the advanced “safety” groups and we set all the features to off.
