Tazer (Programmer) for the JL

ready to purchase but looking on the website it shows a mini that APPEARS to do the same thing as the two piece unit. Is this something new where you dont need the OBD port?

Mini is the same just they put all the pieces into one "hidden" unit. I say hidden because w/ the mini it tucks into the dash and you can still use obdii port for something else or at least keep it hidden say if you have your top off.

11.0.7h beta, was made available, on the ZAutomotive website by Joe, today, 1/30/19...

Since you are running the earlier 11.07e beta release ,YES, I encourage you to update to 11.0.7h right a way. Would not tell you this if I thought there was no reason to do so.

DO, unmarry your Tazer JL. After you unmarry, update the device to 11.0.7h and then remarry your Tazer JL. Do check your settings and redo as needed.

When the Tazer Jl first came out it was a two piece unit and that’s all there was, the Tazer itself and then the SGW bypass module and now it’s all one, I had considered selling my Tazer Jl but as stated who would purchase when the mini is available so I would have to make it a good deal on the sale then spend the same again to get a smaller package to do the exact same thing

Important: Can't tell you how many guys I have spoken with on the phone, private messaged with, emailed, went back and forth on the forum with, that do not know...that they need to do this, or know the process so to speak.

DO read below, the info that is found in the Tazer JL instructions... Take note about the 2.5 min.,reboot time (reboots twice) span, the red security dot will appear... then shut JL off and then open the door..


"Full Reboot: If selected, will reset vehicle modules and the radio twice. This takes 2.5 minutes to complete, and should be performed after any Vehicle Settings that affect the radio are changed – the radio will reboot twice in this time, the dash will reset, and when it’s finished, the red security dot on the dash will turn on. Once complete, shut off the vehicle, open and close the driver door and wait for a minute to be sure the dash turns off."

Yes it is in the Submenu Other:menu.

The tazer can’t read the AUX buttons directly (but if you don’t have them and add the mopar kit, it can enable them)
What are you trying to automate? tazer latest firmware beta includes the mapping of 3 of the cruise buttons as hotkeys for many of Tazer’s functions.

If I wanted to put some interior lights on the light show that were directly wired to the aux buttons. If I wanted to have a device triggered in the rear when a turn signal was activated.... Things like that. I can't give away too much before I do it It would just be nice if it could happen. I've never used one before so I'm not familiar with the possibilities. Since I do automation for a living though I thought if would be fun to be creative.

Reality is, it is really easy to disconnect the two cables plugged into the Mini and then just take the Mini inside to your laptop/desktop and do the firmware update at your desk, in comfort, rather then carrying the laptop out to the JL and lets say juggling the laptop, etc..

Anyway, the answer to your question is yes, you can update the Tazer JL Mini while it is hooked up to the two gateway cables.

Updating Firmware while Mini is attached to the gateway cables:

1. Unmarry the Tazer JL Mini
2. Turn the JL off and open the Driver's Door
3. Now, wait until you see the dash turn off (you will wait about a minute)
4. Attach your laptop to the Tazer JL Mini using the USB cable that came with your Mini
5. Laptop / sufficient battery life or is plugged into elec. (DO NOT power it off while updating firmware!)
6. Proceed with the firmware update
7. After the firmware is completed, have the laptop operating system, eject the attached hardware... the Mini
8. Now, disconnect the USB cable
9. Start your JL and remarry the TazerJL Mini
10. Check your Tazer JL settings .... Select features, enable/disable menu items as desired
