Just my opinion, but I like the capture nut fix better than either of the clip solutions.

Having said that, it's nice to see someone offering a product as a solution. Kudos to them!

@ShafferNY

Indeed, with a capture nut, is a way... one way to go...... The repair with a capture nut is quite time consuming and does take some skill, etc.. and there is a chance of doing further damage to the wiring and the pricey sun visor. Not all vehicle owner's are up to the angst.... up to this task..

The sun visor clips, that fortunately are available .... that are talked about in this thread... can be installed in a few minutes and take no skill... probably the way most guys/gals would want to go to repair or beef up their JL/JT sun visor(s).

I know I have the time, the proper tools, the know how... and enjoy fixing / putzing, etc., but even I chose to go with the sun visor clips for sale.

I agree. My original repair requires a certain skill level and isn't for everyone. If I had this happen to my JL today, I'd go with the external clips. It's a great solution, IMO, and very simple, as so many great ideas are.

Just installed the clips. They work…. But don’t think the visor will be as tight as originally/factory… but works for me as very rarely use the visors..quick fix

Just ask @cosine he knows!
A person would have to be a special kind of person for the visor falling down to cause a wreck. I've seen that statement posted many times. I just think the average person can handle it. It happened to me as well as my sis-in-law. Neither of us came any where near loosing control or running into someone. There have been dozens of these events recounted here and nobody has had a wreck. I imagine there have been many thousands of these events and we haven't heard a peep about wrecks. But the day is young. Someone out there has the abilities to make it happen.
There probably is some scenario where it could cause an accident, like it fell sideways and blocked your view at the same time someone did something sudden in front of you. I mean Murphy's Law tends to rear it's head at very bad times, so never say never.

I doubt FCA figures it's a problem that warrants taking further action, I mean hell, you came up w/ a simple fix that FCA engineers should have done after knowing about such a botched design. The steering issues that have plagued the Rubicon that ties into low caster is another example of a simple fix that FCA ignores.

@swampflyer

Personally, I can't see going back to the dealer over and over for a visor issue. To much hassle and wasted time. $ foolish too. Between the time spent, gas going back and forth, etc..

Dealer is just going to install another/the same design visor.. and you/your kids/Wife will break those visors again.

Just buy the visor clips, install on both visors and be done with it...
I go to Daytona a lot for a brewery beer and to shop so no biggie for me to go back. The main reason was when they (supposedly) fixed it, all they did was push it back up into the hole and said so in writing on the warranty paperwork. This time I went to the supervisor and he made sure and I checked that they replaced the visor.. Don't know if it's a updated or not however the part number on this one is different. I think someone on the forum said (laziness) by someone. Never foolish to go for a brewski also no kids just the wife who works, so need to do something with the time. You can only fish so much lol. I agree with your logic but its good beer.:)?

@Shellbird01

I mailed a little mailer with a small plastic auto part(USPS) the other day to Alberta, Canada. It weighed 1 oz.. I was charged $14.85 for the least expensive way to send. Took 10 days to get there from Upstate NY.

Those clips weigh more then 1 oz., so I can see where the seller wants that much fop shipping.... and considering he has to take the time to go into the post office to do customs forms...

As a Canadian, you should know this kinda of expense when getting stuff from the USA is the norm..
Blame Canada, blame the USPS... but not the seller.

And keep in mine many USA sellers won't even ship to Canada.... even if you pay for the shipping.

So yes really. Ok.
It sucks. Works both ways. I had a package that was just some graphics from Canada that cost $20 to be shipped to the US. You would think the amount of mail between the two countries prices would be much cheaper.

So I purchased the dual screw Taccom kit. I know the instructions say to face the opening towards the front of the vehicle but what do you guys think? Would there be any more benefit of turning it around and would it better support the arm? I guess that depends on which direction takes the most abuse. My thinking is if it takes the most abuse and greater forces pulling it down than pushing it forward then maybe it might be beneficial to not follow the directions and face the opening towards the back of the vehicle so there might be slightly more support given by the height of the plastic retaining clip… If you follow what I’m saying. On the other hand I could just be entertaining myself and overthinking this.

Being that I found a new visor for $32 shipped for the passenger side I opted to just replace the visor and try the dual screw TACCOM kit To hopefully delay future breakage in addition to keeping it from falling down.
