Also, with the start button killswitch you mentioned only stops it being started via button, not fob -- correct? Still worth doing? We may have to link up next time I'm in your neck of the woods ?

Forget the VIN - The thief doesn't need your VIN.

You can only remote start via the FOB - if there is no power to the push to start - cant drive off from remote start.

I have the tazer with hood alarm enabled. It's stopped at least two attempts to get under my hood. I assume that's where they start and its scared them off both times.

That and being a manual transmission has likely saved me from theft multiple times. Covering the VIN isn't a bad idea.. I'll throw a sticker over it today.

I'll probably also hide an airtag in there. Some guy used one to track his audi a few weeks ago here in Denver. He located the vehicle and the minor thief started shooting. He shot back and killed the thief, no charges filed. Wouldn't suggest that but it worked :)

Professional thief can drive manuals.

Covering the VIN is ridiculous - its like covering the license plate on photos of your jeep with your thumb...

Alarms only dissuade honest people..takes 10 seconds to pull the Horn relay and stop it from honking.

Have good insurance and all your aftermarket parts added to the policy.

Yeah I won't worry about the VIN. I also use a steering wheel club when parking in dubious places.

I guess everything little thing helps. Unless they just drag your vehicle onto a flatbed and drive away with it lol.

This is what I am talking about!

If not this then my garage and 12ga shotgun is what I have.
"IF you value your life the way I value this Jeep, then turn and run, because right now I am looking at you thru a Trijicon ACOG® 3.5x35 USMC Combat Riflescope sitting atop a AR 10 Sniper rifle in 7.62 NATO and you will not be out of range for 1200 meters"

BYE!

Is this still a mystery by the original poster? Post half information or no information then gets all secret like it is national security?

If you enable this, what turns it off? Do you go into the jscan and disable it? Or does it work off the power locks? Wondering for those without power locks...

What would be the most cost effective way to deter thieves? What I have read here so far is:

1. Take batteries out of fobs, making them into dumb keys
2. Buy a Faraday bag - how much are those?
3. Add hood latch locks
4. Add alarms to the hood pins (how does this work)?
5. Cover up the VIN number - any legal issues created?
6. Kill switch- any warranty issues caused?

We already have cameras pointed at the driveway

Is LoJack helpful at all?
1. Pointless (This does minimally limit fob replay attacks which are super rare)
2.See above same thing if there is no battery in your fob no signial is escaping that a RF shield would block. Again these attacks (Key Replay) are extremely rare and super difficult to pull off.
3. Yes
4. Yes (Jscan)
5. Pointless
6. Yes (If you screw it up then no the dealer could deny a warranty) If done right prob not.

7. Actual security devices Like Ravelco, Drone, Compustar, Igla all work but $$$
Thanks for this summary of options. It's useful for someone like me new to this just wanting a rough idea of my best options for theft deterrence on my new JLU.

It’s easy with the tazer. But you must have the tazer installed.

Just a heads up in certain states destroying or altering VIN tags could land you in hot water…

They can start it with the fob but you need to press the start button to go anywhere and it's disabled.
