when I saw this at SEMA I was wondering what they were going to look like on other Jeeps. I'm on the fence I like it and I don't like it I don't know. I've always had them on all my trucks and my JK that I had for six years. I had them and they really good on the JK they weren't that big but the lights are bigger now so you have to have the bigger cover. do you have any pictures from behind where I can see both at the same time and a photo from the corner angle about 10 ft away
That's what I was thinking you think you would have to open the tailgate and get it from the inside also. most vehicles are like that I thought where you have to come from the inside also I can't believe you can just take it off on the outside wowThis is obviously an extremely poor design if they can be stolen so easily. Now I'm regretting the LED option.
I investigated that very solution. Problem is, it'd still be holding a tail light with plastic threads on the receiving end. I envisioned that just a bit of additional effort would be necessary to pull off the tail light assembly, when compared to doing the same with the OEM plastic bolt in situ. I'd wager there'd be no real gain in security where determined thieves are concerned.Could they be replaced with a stronger bolt as a preventative?
Is there an alternative for this piece, perhaps a metal option? I'm sure not but given this flaw there should be.In case anyone is interested, the JL's tail light is secured to the JL with a single white plastic bolt that screws into the hole on the plastic piece, on the backside of the tail light, that is circled in the pic below..
The thief just prys on the rear tail light enough from outside of the JL... prys/tweaks... just enough to break the piece circled in blue.
Once the circled piece is broken, the tail light comes right off of the JL.
I saved this photo, but I don't currently know the provenance of the lights. Is there an alternative for this piece, perhaps a metal option? I'm sure not but given this flaw there should be.
shipping might kill it but SoCal Mopar direct gives a decent discount. My dream car has been violated!! Thank you to the low life who stole my tail light. Also, they decided to cut the wire instead of just disconnecting the harness. I ordered the tail light ($760) , the harness ETA is end of FEBRUARY!!!! I rigged up a trailer light for now. I hope the motherf’er is happy.
