It is pretty stupid driving around without the spare but I can see if your only going out on a deserted beach or a long lonely dirt road......
Nah, its stupid, even more so
But.... I've seen those plates that mount on the back if you really want that and you can't live with the spare but find one that mounts the third brake light or risk being ticketed or having someone rear end you and blame you because you removed a federally mandated safety item which is actually a pretty good case, kinda like "black out" brake lights which are even more stupid
Good luck ;)
Common misunderstanding, but the 3rd brake light is Federally mandated to the manufacture of the vehicle. Only the bottom two brake lights are required when driving the vehicle in most states. That license plate light us another story...

Exactly which State allows this again ? "most" ?
And what, exactly, would the argument against having the legally required safety equipment be ? Are we trying our best to get rear-ended or are we just too stupid to reinstall the light after we mod ?
Perhaps we can just take off everything that was mandated to be installed on the new vehicle if some guy on a forum tells us we can

OP - While I don’t have a tire delete kit suggestion for you. I’d be interested in what you end up with & how you like it as this is something I’ve also considered!

Wow, the immoral & toxic gatekeeping BS attitude that crawled up from the trash in response to your question is honestly pretty disgusting.

It’s like half the responses here are either telling you that your are wrong/stupid or why you should never do the mod….

On road, in civilization, odds are you will never use that spare. My suggestion would be to Run a good (high quality) set of tires & bring a repair kit with you for daily driving. It’s honestly very easy to add a spare back into the mix when going somewhere off the beaten path (no cell coverage), alone, or into a risky situation.

Enjoy YOUR jeep!

My advice would be to look at your specific state law to see what mods are legal. My advice would also be to not get upset and assume someone is attacking you when all they are doing is setting the facts straight.

Looking for spare tire delete suggestions (brands) for my 2dr.
I used the delete kit from American Adventure Labs. Comes with a new LED third brake light. A little more expensive than some other offerings but I like it. I didn’t bother removing the factory tailgate reinforcement from the tailgate.

Looked at a lot of them & liked the Artec the best-

It greatly increases rear visibility & drops the weight a bit. I use my Jeep mostly for short trips & mild off-road. If it gets more serious I'll just bring along tire repair stuff / compressor and/or toss the spare in the back. I don't worry too much if folks say it doesn't look manly enough or how stupid it is. I do use the 3rd brake light although it is not mandatory to pass inspection in PA. Believe it or not a 3rd brake light was not federally required for over 80 years and somehow people actually survived it.

Some people just have to be told how to live.

Regarding the third brake light, I see no reason why we can't improve over time: https://www.apa.org/topics/safety-d...ee just how well, reduced rear impacts by 4.3%.

It is, actually.
Umm, no, a damaged sidewall is NOT repairable. No respectable tire shop would even attempt it as the side walls Flex, unless things have changed in the last few years it’s illegal to even attempt such repairs (at least in most places). OP has obviously never yet experienced the “fun” of a flat off-road.?. Have that happen ONCE when you’re in the boonies and you’ll never even consider running without a spare.

Had a tire cut on a rock back in my old TJ. Without a spare I’d have had a nice long nearly 20 mile hike in front of me.

Good lord. Every now and then this topic comes out and so does the ugly side of a lot of people. They insult someone else's intelligence as an argument, "Why would you do that, are you stupid or something?" Cite regulations that they have never read themselves, "It's required safety equipment!" Put the tiki torches back where you got em from and calm down.

Let's assume that no one here is too stupid to understand a coherent statement from either side. Now let's simply gather some pros and cons.
Pros- Saves weight, especially important to consider for the tailgate which is known to sag. Increases rear visibility. Allows you to possibly carry something else on the tailgate. I.E. fuel or water. And finally a subjective one, looks. Some people prefer the look without the spare.
Cons- When you get a flat, you are screwed. Decreased tire wear with a five tire rotation. And again the subjective one, looks. For some people, Jeeps just need to have a spare hanging back there.

I've run with and without. There are more pros and cons than the ones I've listed, but those are really the major ones. And the lack of a spare never stopped me. I carried a very good plug kit that I am pretty skilled at using, and a reliable light weight air compressor. But I never needed the compressor. I did have to plug a tire once. Hazards of working around a bunch of construction guys who aren't careful with nails. A lot of people who carry full size Jeep spares are incapable of actually changing their tire themselves anymore anyway. Whether it's lack of knowledge, strength, or equipment.
And as far as regulations go. There is no law state or federal, that requires you to carry a spare tire. I know, you doubt me. Go ahead and look it up, I'll wait.... Are you done? Cool.
Now with all that out of the way. Is it something that I recommend? No. At least not for most people. You are definitely taking a risk in doing it. And I don't trust most people to even understand how to plug a tire, let alone a trail repair with no cell coverage. But then again, I tell most people not to buy a Jeep. I don't like most people.
