You are right. I like serious off roading about 15% of the time. I really like great views and moderate trails the most. I don't need to prove that my Jeep can climb over boulders and drop off big ledges. Been there done that. I like beautiful trails that lead to an awesome camp spot with incredible views more than anything.I don't mind challenging rock crawling. But if it ever gets serious, it means it's not for fun. More likely a life saving activity at the "serious off roading" point. All the rest is fun off roading. Am-i-right?
Obviously serious off roading is off roading where smiling or laughing is disallowed![]()
So this is something I've seen mentioned on these forums and on the internet in general in regards to Jeeps, specifically Wranglers VS "The Competition"...and pick your poison, could be a 4Runner or maybe a Land Cruiser...anything with 4wd really it doesn't matter.
But someone will inevitably say something like "well I'd only buy a Wrangler for Serious Offroading" because a Jeep isn't good enough for X...where X is any activity that apparently isn't Serious Offroading.
So great forum hivemind, what is Serious Offroading? Is it hopping curbs at the local strip mall or going to Moab? Something in between? What say you serious offroaders™?
I feel like the whole thing is just to make up reasons to drive boring ass cars but I'm just an internet idiot so what do I know.
Example of what I am talking about

Yeah. My off-roadings are never serious. We talk shit to each others and try to have fun. Either driving on the highway to the trailhead, or someone's Jeep laying upside down on the trail, we are never really that serious.Obviously serious off roading is off roading where smiling or laughing is disallowed
But Roy, which one is EXTREME!??!!Bottom line, "serious offroading" means different things to different people.
To some people with buggies, anything short of a 10+ rated trail is not off roading.
To some people, a 4 rated trail is too much.
Everyone has a different point of view.
The BoH trail ratings are pretty wild sometimes too. Our local BoH trail is easier than the trail its main obstacle is named after (Little Daniel on Dickey Bell is named after the harder Daniel trail). End of the day it's just a number slapped next to a name, someone had to pick that number, it's not like it was scientifically or objectively derived. If it was subjective then apps like TOR wouldn't have subjective ratings for each that get modified based on input from those that have done the trails.
The rules for chess are objective. Arbitrary, but very much objective. The measured weight of my JLURD is objective.
Assessing the difficultly of a trail is very much subjective. Two people doing the same trail in the same vehicle can have highly varying perspectives of its difficulty.
GenPop, Roy. GenPop.Who are these "normies" specifically, and why don't you just ask them directly?
This is what I call serious water crossings.
It's okay, it probably not the first time she has been displeased. But hey at least he tried.
They did it for the nookieYou know I never understand why people complain about their significant other in some ways. They knew exactly what they were "buying into" when they said "I do".
They accepted it then but later on they want to complain and it just blows my mind. I guess I'll just never understand people in general.
I've heard rumors that some people do the nookie thing before getting married! Shocking, right? They did it for the nookie
Yeah but then they marry the nookie for the nookiness and then it turns out they're just a sucker with a lump in their throat, like a chumpI've heard rumors that some people do the nookie thing before getting married! Shocking, right?
That's why I never do anything for the nookie. That's how they sucker you in. You have to remember the nookie can always be taken away and you should never take it for granted. It becomes a lot easier to say no after that.Yeah but then they marry the nookie for the nookiness and then it turns out they're just a sucker with a lump in their throat, like a chump
Gotta get that nookie addickted so they can't quit youThat's why I never do anything for the nookie. That's how they sucker you in. You have to remember the nookie can always be taken away and you should never take it for granted. It becomes a lot easier to say no after that.
Right. Because no one ever changes as they get older...You know I never understand why people complain about their significant other in some ways. They knew exactly what they were "buying into" when they said "I do".
