Hot take.

"Serious" is when you're giving back to your local trails and are actively involved in fostering the best local 4x4 culture/community that can be had. It's an attitude.

You know these off-road wizard types when you meet them, and you wish you could find the time and dedication to their sport like they have.

And yet "serious" for others might include tearing up those same trails. Unfortunately I've seen both.

But then we are right back where we started, since everybody's "pucker factor" tolerance is different.

It's the sidewall to tire diameter ratio which is usually a better indicator.... Unless it's a full-size pickup with a 6" lift, then there's no doubt that bedtime fun is going to be disappointing, whatever tire it's got on it.

My wife loves to pull up next to those stupidly jacked up rigs, wait until they make eye contact, then hold up her index finger and thumb a few millimeters apart.

Isn't that an area of lower pressure than under the hood? At least it should be cooler.

This is so true. The subjective trail rating is alive and well. Black Bear Pass is rated as a 5-6 level trail on the Jeep BOH app. You can literally drive in in 2wd. If you can successful park your Jeep in a parking lot, you should be able to wheel this trail as long as heights don't bother you. There is one spot that is off chamber then a couple switch backs that are a little tight. Yet if you have not wheeled on shelf road with huge drop offs, it can be intimidating.

Exactly. If you're petrified of heights it's a "no fucking way...no matter what" trail. If not and you have an appropriate vehicle then it's fairly "meh" from a difficulty perspective.

I'm not sure how some people here think that's objective and not blatantly subjective.
