I just canceled my order for a fully loaded billet silver Sahara. Was really looking forward to my first Jeep, but the rust issues along with wind noise, hard top buffeting, and what seemed like a blown gasket on the tear down video made me think twice. No new car at any price point should have problems such as these. With all the advanced manufacturing technology available today, looks like Jeep really missed the mark instead of capitalizing on an iconic model. Is there no quality control at Jeep? Bummed and disappointed.
Thus has been Wrangler quality since the YJ.

It appears they're having worse initial quality and on-time production than the YJ, TJ, and JK launches. How they're managing to screw this all up I haven't a clue.

Where others succeed, FCA fails.

Heres a pic from me. Fahhhkkk I was hoping to look under there and not find anything. This was the only one "of concern" though.

Hey guys! Just an update. I went to dealership yesterday and got the Jeep up on the lift. While there is standard rust on the undercarriage, there was definitely concern with the weld I posted a photo of. At no charge, they will grind the weld down next week, re-weld it and seal it black. They were extremely helpful and I am ok with this solution after looking at the entire frame with my own eyes up on the lift. There did however seem to be some concern from the higher ups though about this potentially being a problem with many vehicles so who knows. Anyone else get good photos of issues like mine?

What?! No! We have to all cancel our orders to show FCA who’s boss! “They” haven’t notified “everyone” about this obvious flaw that they’ve known to have affected at least one person! :cwl:

Seriously, though, great news that your dealer is taking care of you, and thanks for sharing. This info will surely help the next guy!

I guess that's why FCA raised the MSRP by $500. They have to cover the cost of frame weld repairs.

I plan on keeping my new JL forever! That being said, how much would it cost to have the entire frame cleaned up and resealed? Is this practical at all to ensure a max frame life?

Do they not have people inspecting the frames before they are sent to production?

"Standard rust" on a brand new vehicle? I hope that term describes light surface rust on a very heavy and uncoated part like a drive shaft. That term shouldn't apply to any new parts that were supposed to be treated to hinder rusting

I was pissed when I saw some one mine. Researched it and it happens to every car. Now bad welds is a different story. But some uncoated parts are going to rust. Can’t stop it.
I am waiting another month for salt to stop and going to wash mine, prep it and coat bottom myself where some small spots have started.

I'm adding rustproofing and sound deadening/undercoating to mine. The winters here in Canada can be pretty bad and the amount of salt that gets thrown is nuts, My neighbour had an 04 Mazda 3 brand new his fender was rusted pretty bad after 2 winters.

on a side note, I wanted to get the Mopar/Rubicon Steel Bumper installed on my JLU Sahara, but maybe aftermarket is better? Or should I just get it powder coated?

Keep an eye on it. Shocking a weld could be/look that bad. Worrisome actually - I have a Billet Silver Rubicon 2-door on order now... LOL I have had zero issues with my JK Rubicon.

Also, somebody posted a serious steering issue today as well. Dammit!

I just took a look under my JL Sport. Lots of rust spots on the welds. Also several places the robot missed a seam altogether. It's not slag in the pictures posted. While I've not been to the Wrangler plant, I'd bet a lot of money the robots use shielded gas welding (GMAW) which doesn't produce slag.

Dhaummmm. That’s a horrible looking weld. Looks like a ball of old rusted steel wool instead of a weld.
Where exactly is that weld?
