I have a 2021 and noticed this same thing starting to happen. It’s a bit ridiculous that it’s been an issue for years and the answer seems to be bringing a Jeep in for a window swap instead of something being done to actually correct the issue. From what I’m reading, not only has this been happening for the life of the JL, it’s also not even guaranteed corrected with a new window. To have a Jeep with such a clean looking interior, with such sharp design elements, and a doodoo brown rear window is just jarring to see. I’d rather not even have a defroster than this streaky brown mess.

It is definitely not rust. The insulation layer covering the copper lines seems to get brittle and comes off.

In my opinion this could be a safety concern because the energy from the electric current in the copper lines transfers into heat, hence the insulation layer. If the insulation is no longer present the heat from the copper lines can be transferred to any flammable object when it comes into contact with the exposed copper.

In example, packing luggage in the rear for a long holiday and some material such as pillows, bedding, jackets, paper, plastic etc. packed on top of the luggage, makes contact with the exposed copper (While the defroster is on), could potentially start a fire.

Stellantis should take this issue more seriously.
