Kind of curious why nobody or everybody who has any rust problems at all, are not calling jeep and complaining??? Mine should be here in a week and I’m gonna be super bummed and probably not take delivery of it if I have welts like that! Remember voices heard have a bigger impact than anything else

I'm getting really bummed out. I'm test driving my first JL tonight, finally. I might as well peek at the frame. Why can't they build these things properly?

So is there a consensus? All JL's have factory rust, weld, and frame problems? Future warranty work, such as Tacomas of old?
They key is to inspect anything you buy from a 2 star quality company before buying. I am treating buying a Wrangler like buying a used 4x4.

So, when our new Wranglers arrive, do we need to get the dealer to put it on a lift and check for these welds or can you see it without lifting it up? Or does a bumper need to be removed or ?

Ok I know nothing about welds! I just inspect "Ruby's" belly. I took a bunch of pics. For starters, I picked her up on Jan 17. (Ordered Nov 7, I think). Im in the Northeast and its rained or snowed a few times a week ,since the day I picked it up. Weather has straight up sucked!!!! Anyway before you look at these pics, know this, the brown on the welds IS NOT RUST! (on this Jeep) I know nothing about welds, as Ive said, but I do know rust. It looks like a brown paint or something or maybe something related to welding, I don't know but I can assure you this brown stuff is not rust. Nothing jumped out as horrible to me, I took a few other pics to while I was under her. (she was a little shy) lol. Anyway, check it out......
Your welds look fine. The pictures aren't the best, but I believe those are slag formations. They occur when the metal isn't cleaned well enough, and the high heat melts them and the rise to the surface. A little of it does not compromise the integrity at all, too much can. Although that is more than what should pass from a QAQC standpoint, you don't have anything to worry about.

They occur often, and they're like glass. They are supposed to be chipped away before adding another weld or painting. That's why you see them, because they're smooth like glass, were not cleaned off, and the paint didn't adhere and came off in no time.

Haha, for the most part, nothing! Just with some glares it can be hard to see the shine that tends to be on those slag formations. They usually look like brown glass. But I'm also used to looking at fresh welds, not ones that have dealt with 4 Nor'easters in "Spring."

After checking mine. It looks the same way. I do not believe its rust. Maybe not painted right?

If it really isn't rust it's slag from the weld. It should be chipped off prior to paint, but it looks like they don't go through that much effort, so instead the paint just flakes off of the smooth surface. Seems like an odd place to skimp since the slag is so brittle and can easily chip away. Even if the paint did stick to it, it would eventually chip off and take the paint with it.

I have rust spots about every 6" on my frame and I'm in CO which is basically a high altitude dessert and we don't use any road salt.

Yeah, I had pointed it out before that too in post 35, but nobody seemed to read it when I said it the first time.
