I test drove a Raptor prior to buying my JLUR. It was a pretty sweet truck but the more I thought about it, the more I realized I'd really prefer to drive a JLU.

I dont know much about the JL truck coming out but if I had to pick between it and the Raptor......I'd probably have to go with the Raptor.

To put it simply, I’d say it’s either a convertible truck with rock crawling capabilities or a Baja style racing truck with a more comfortable quieter interior. I think the JT will start at a lower price though by a few grand.

Im going through the same dilemma. First I looked at used Raptors, but I’m not paying $45,000 for a used one. Then I researched the new one and fell in Love with it. Except for one thing, the exhaust note. Finally checked one out at the dealer, and after a test ride, I decided I just didn’t want to live with a truck that looked that good but sounded like crap. I personally feel that the Ford V-6 eco-boost is the worst sounding v6. It sounds lazy. I then started looking into the Ram Rebel. But somewhere along the line I saw that the JL was coming out and started researching it. And I fell in love with it!

I live in the So Cal desert. One Jeep owner here said that a Raptor is great for high speed desert runs, but the desert seems small when you’re blasting through it at 80mph. Which makes good sense. A Jeep will do twice the stuff that a Raptor will do, just at a slower pace. And I would rock crawl a $50,000 Jeep that’s setup for it, but would not crawl a $70,000 Raptor.

Then in talking about Jeeps, two very different people said that a Jeep is the one vehicle that they will always have. One is a 65 year old female school teacher. She’s independently wealthy and has a Jag, Porsche, and a couple other nice cars. The other is a friend of mine, and he said that driving around with the top and doors off is the ultimate. Those two different people saying that they’d always have a Jeep really helps to cement the idea that I’m making the right decision.

The Jeep just seems like a much better, more versatile platform to build off of then a Raptor. The jeep comes across as being a lifestyle. Where as the Raptor, just go spend some time on the Raptor formum and you’ll see what kind of people they are for.

I did drive a 600 hp supercharged version, and I will say that it was a power house. But that’s just additional money to spend on top of the money to even buy the truck in the first place. At the end of the day, FCA will be answering with a competitor. Keep an eye out for it at the LA auto show this year................
Yea, this "ram" is going to be pretty sweet. Unfortunately ,they're still debating between the hellcat and a V6 like the raptor tho.

I hope they offer a hemi in the JT and that it's expensive. If I buy one I don't want to see a lot of them around me. I live in a non ritzy area so if they're expensive they'll be rare here. Here's to hoping for a 70k plus jt with a hemi v8

pros: seats are more comfortable on the raptor, driving position better, quieter, better suspension, boosted motor.
cons:too wide for offroading in trails, weight distribution and rear leaf springs inadequate for anything more than baja style running, if anything breaks with turbo its very expensive. gas milage is horrible...

It'll be a shame to have this JT without the hemi. The sound and power of the 392 would be perfect for the JT

Have they confirmed no hemi or is that just your thoughts?
Nothing confirmed that I've seen, however the odds are pretty slim they'll offer it with a Hemi. They're not offering a Hemi in the Wrangler due to CAFE reasons so why would they offer a Hemi in the JT?

Don't forget the new Bronco is coming and it will perfectly fill the void for those who want a Raptor AND a Jeep's qualities. I've done two feedback sessions on it (a follow up yesterday) and I think it is going to be pretty sweet. It appears to borrow a few things from the Raptor.
