Those of us with a 2024 have an updated nav system that's much better than previous versions, and is required if you also want the new trails offroad integration.
Much better - depends on who is using it, personally I would never use the navigation, and it's a $2,000+ group option, the Nav also requires paid updates.

I would prefer there wasn't a screen on the dash in the first place, the Uconnect is the only thing I dislike with the Wrangler, but that is just me.

I personally had a 4xe and came back to gas after a bad experience with reliability (had to lemon-law the 4xe), but from what your use case seems to be a Sahara 4xe with the SOT seems like a good fit!

I have another PHEV at home now (Volvo) and have owned another in the past (BMW). In my opinion, PHEVs offer (1) additional convenience in form of less visits to the gas station, (2) less reliability and (3) no marerial cost advantages.

I’d say don’t worry at all about wheels and tires - they’re easy to swap (and <$1k) and won’t void any warranty if you stick with OEM sizes.
What does SOT mean?

The OP hasn't provided a use-case, only a brief description of how they intend to use it.
This would be a daily driver. Family of 4 with 2 kids 5 and 8. Kids would prefer the side-step but I can manage. Off-roading would be minimal. Easy gravels initially. Going on trails is great but it is a bit worrisome with 2 kids monitoring my every move from the back.

For the OP's stated use, 17 vs 18 won't make any material difference, and I don't see a difference in tire price.

Running boards/steps are optional on the Sahara.
The Sahara 4xe is 20", the gas Sahara is 18"

Side steps can be had anywhere from free to cheap, people that buy the Sahara and intend to use it off-road tend to take them off and sell.

SOT is Sky-One Touch roof.

SOT = Sky One Touch

I daily my 3.6 now (the Volvo PHEV is out of commission with non-working heat) and I still don’t miss the 4xe, but that is 100% personal preference.

Thank you for clarifying.

SOT (now I know lol) appears to be hard from the side with soft top at the top. Curious how that is in the rain especially when car is parked outside. Is it Robust enough to not be an issue?

Same, except my kids are 9 and 12, and I have a gas Sahara. I get to an offroad park maybe 3-4 times a year (unfortunately) due to kids sports, etc.

My Sahara came with 32" Dueler A/Ts on an 18" rim. I took it to the local offroad park a couple of weeks after getting it. These tires worked, but not great - they just don't have the tread to properly grip. If you're just doing gravel roads, you're totally fine. You probably wouldn't even need to air down.

I put in a 1.5" Teraflex spacer lift and bought a set of Rubicon take-offs (33" KO2 tires on a 17" rim) and that combo has taken me through every trail I've come across that I'm comfortable doing, including 6 Badge of Honor trails, and following others with 35s and lockers and such. Total cost was $1,200, offset by the $700 I got when I sold my Sahara wheels+tires.

I've not shopped for tires since 2021, but when I was shopping, the selection and price of replacing tires on an 18" rim vs a 17" rim made it clear that I should drop down to the 17".

My Wrangler is parked in a garage, so it is only exposed to the elements while driving or parked else where, the SOT still looks new after 2 years, I go into an underground a couple of times a month where the metal height bar grazes over it lightly, I haven't seen any issues due that that.

I spray it with 303 fabric guard early spring, and then again early fall x2 coats.

I used 303 previously on the Sunrider for hardtop, seems to work and keep the tops looking new and black.

I've had soft tops, hardtops, Sunrider for Hardtop, the swapping of the tops was getting tedious.

For the Sunrider for hard top it was great at the time, I just put it on and stored the freedom panels, I only put the panels back on when I traded in the 2018, and sold the Sunrider for almost what I paid for it during a Christmas season.

I've seen some tops in the wild to be faded, not sure why or what happened.

But for the most part the SOT that I see from time to time look like they are still very black and new like condition.

I wouldn't want to own the 4xe long term, but it's hard to argue the benefits of electric in short commutes or city driving. I would definitely lease one if it happens to be the best option. How these batteries will fare long term, is what will be really interesting...

So, the Sahara is great if you're more focused on daily driver duty, and electric is great for a lease, but I would rather own either gas engine. I love the 2.0T in my Rubicon.

Probably not the best for your use case, but personally, I think the updated Willys package for 2024 might be best in the lineup. Factory 33's with a rear locker will get you through just about anything most are willing to try in a brand new Jeep. And if you need more capability down the line, you can swap in a Dana Ultimate 44 for the added strength and front locker. Then you're in pretty good shape to support 37's, but there's always more supporting mods to do...

My Sahara has the SOT and lives outdoors - no problem so far in NY.

Also, I 100% recommend getting the @Hothead Headliners headliner for the SOT. I just installed it a few weeks back and still can’t believe the difference it makes!

I couldn't find it. Where is there a posted use-case in the thread? Looks like the OP just gave a brief description of how they intend to use their Jeep.

What would be a good example of a proper Wrangler use case? :)
