Hello

I'm new to the jeep family but trying to read up on a bunch of threads. I have been interesred in Sahara 4xe and had a few questions, hoping you can help:

1. Are people here typically preferring 4xe technology or gasoline only?

2. Is the 4xe working out better especially with the $7500 federal credit or is it just the inflated prices of 4xe being offset by the credit?

3. Any thoughts on lease vs finance on Jeeps or really personal preference?

4. Are there any must have options on '24 Wranglers? I'm particularly interested in leather, alpine sound system, 3-piece hard stop (one touch sky is nice too) and side step (for the kids).

5. Finally, more on the offloading side: The delaer is saying the all seasons tires on Sahara are not off-road capable. I'm not looking to take on any complex trail for now but more of gravel roads with 1 or 2 difficulty. Is he correct? He was pushing me towards Willy for better tires or Rubicon.

Would appreciate any feedback! Thanks!

Hello

I'm new to the jeep family but trying to read up on a bunch of threads. I have been interesred in Sahara 4xe and had a few questions, hoping you can help:

1. Are people here typically preferring 4xe technology or gasoline only?

You'll find two camps here - the absolutely and the definitely not. There have been issues and recalls, but also folks love the local EV, short trip thing. There are definitely haters too. I'd try to drive each and make up your own opinion (I purchased a gas 2.0 ['22] as the 4xe was too new for my tastes). It seems several kinks have been worked out.

2. Is the 4xe working out better especially with the $7500 federal credit or is it just the inflated prices of 4xe being offset by the credit?

You'll have to fact-check me, but I don't think you can get the full credit with purchase now (maybe 3500?). It may still work on leases though. For the 4xe, you may find that several dealers (and those on Ratbert's spreadsheet) will have a glut of 4xes on the lots and you may be able to work a deal.

3. Any thoughts on lease vs finance on Jeeps or really personal preference?

Personal preference really ... I chose to purchase/finance over leasing. Hopefully, others will chime in on the lease side.

4. Are there any must have options on '24 Wranglers? I'm particularly interested in leather, alpine sound system, 3-piece hard stop (one touch sky is nice too) and side step (for the kids).

Many of the basic options are built in; however, I ordered the basics: soft top window storage bag, rubber mats, and doors-off mirrors. I love the stability of the mirrors but knew I wouldn't spend the $170 on the mirrors ... so they were included in the purchase price. Sidesteps, Alpine, Navigation (yuck) were standard on the Sahara in 2022.

For what you're doing, you should be fine. If you go high-altitude and get the 20" wheels/tires, you may have issues. I'm on 18" Goodyear All Terrains (got it with the limited slip option at the time) and they are well-suited for my use case; light off-road, fire roads, and beach driving.

Good luck on your purchase!

Would appreciate any feedback! Thanks!

1. Gas :)

2. No idea

3. You'll get arguments both ways. You may be better off leasing the 4xe so you have an easy out in 3 years if you have battery issues or significant depreciation.

4. That's completely subjective and personal.

5. The stock tires are all season and technically not suitable for any significant off roading. You can always upgrade your tires later if you find they do not meet your needs.

You don't buy a Jeep for the tires, and even less so do you buy a particular trim/model. That's like deciding to buy a car based on how much loose change the previous person left in the cupholder.

Buy the Sahara, buy through one of the dealers that gives deep discounts (% off invoice) and get exactly what you want. Finance, no lease.

1. Are people here typically preferring 4xe technology or gasoline only? - this depends on your usage, if the vast majority of your trips are within the 21 mile range and ⚡ is cheap, then maybe the 4xe is better, basically cost of 1 gallon of ⛽ vs cost of 14kWh ⚡, there is also a lot more power in the 4xe.

2. Is the 4xe working out better especially with the $7500 federal credit or is it just the inflated prices of 4xe being offset by the credit? The Rubicon prices might be a bit inflated than the Sahara.

3. Any thoughts on lease vs finance on Jeeps or really personal preference? Access to the $7,500, maybe lease if you can write it off.

4/5 The Willys might be better than the Sahara, the Rubicon might be over kill. Also the Willys you can get just the Alpine for far less than the Sahara, which requires Navigation package to get the Alpine, SOT is a great option.

Jeep outdated Navigation system is generally not worth the money, when you can get up-to-date Waze/Other better navigation for "free"

alternatively you can just buy new Rubicon or Willys take off wheels for $1,000, and swap out the Sahara wheels full time or as needed, I use Rubicon take off full time on my Sahara.

compare the 3 side by side, they all have different standard equipment, which may or may not be of use to you.

The reason I went with sahara was that I wanted leather, alpine, color matched hard top and fenders and gas. That was the only trim that really gave me everything I was after. There are things I would have loved to have like different gears and a steel bumper but those were less important to me overall.

The $7500 tax credit is only available in a lease. It's $3,500 tax credit on the purchase/finance side, but only if you are under the income limitations.

Those of us with a 2024 have an updated nav system that's much better than previous versions, and is required if you also want the new trails offroad integration.

Sahara owner here. For your described offroad usage, a Sahara is more than capable - Willys would be overkill.

You can *easily* swap the tires out for more aggressive tread if you do decide later that you want to tackle harder trails. The bigger thing would be to get rid of the 18" rims on the Sahara (the 4xe might come with 20s even) and go down to 17" rims. They'll look better, perform better offroad (more sidewall), and tires will be cheaper, since 17" is a more common rim size for offroad tires.

The Sahara comes with a decent set of running boards/side steps.

Can you clarify what you mean by that?

Also how do you find your 4xE vs standard gasoline?

Did you end up changing your tires then? Just the tires or rims as well?

Feedback on why you decided on 4xE vs Gasoline?

I got different wheels and tires yes and love them. Also, I went gas not 4xe. Chose gas because I trust it to have fewer issues plus the added cost of the 4xe is just not worth it at all. You'll never save enough gas to make up the difference.

For the OP's stated use, 17 vs 18 won't make any material difference, and I don't see a difference in tire price.

Running boards/steps are optional on the Sahara.

I personally had a 4xe and came back to gas after a bad experience with reliability (had to lemon-law the 4xe), but from what your use case seems to be a Sahara 4xe with the SOT seems like a good fit!

I have another PHEV at home now (Volvo) and have owned another in the past (BMW). In my opinion, PHEVs offer (1) additional convenience in form of less visits to the gas station, (2) less reliability and (3) no marerial cost advantages.

I’d say don’t worry at all about wheels and tires - they’re easy to swap (and <$1k) and won’t void any warranty if you stick with OEM sizes.

I changed rims+tires everything, I already had Gladiator Falken Wildpeak MT takeoff wheels that I was using on my 2018 3.6 JL, so when I traded in for the 2021 4xe I just swapped them out, the wheels that came with the 4xe are stored and almost new, I recently sold the Falken, and got K02 off a Rubicon, the K02 doesn't seem to perform as well as the Falken MT in snow.

The major reason I swap out the Sahara wheels for the Rubicon is mostly for appearance, and in the snow the Rubicon wheels seems to do a better job than Sahara wheels.

When I say wheels I mean rims+tires, they also usually come with the TPMS also eg:
https://www.4xeforums.com/threads/2022-rubicon-4xe-wheels-and-tires.6296/

The bulk of my miles are ⚡, with the 3.6 my mpg was around 14mpg, so for 21 miles I was paying $7-8 ⛽ vs $1.50-$3 ⚡ (I rarely pay for ⚡) I'm just giving you the $ as an example.

I also like the added power of the 4xe.

I usually do 1000km ⚡ to 100km ⛽ a month.

The OP hasn't provided a use-case, only a brief description of how they intend to use it.
