True, but my point remains... they'd be even better were they not hamstrung. It's a trade-off, as cars are obviously far safer today. But history suggests that consumers would have made other choices in the absence of the mandates.

The government should decide what it really values... safety or efficiency. Otherwise it starts to look like the whole point is to eliminate ICEs through regulations which become impossible to meet. The VW diesel thing is a perfect example.

I disagree. The mandates have given us the best of both worlds. They've forced advancements that otherwise may not have happened.

I had a 97 Sahara, loaded, dual top package, auto. Green, tan tops, green and tan interior. Loved that Jeep. Sticker was mid 20’s. Nice the Jeep AND the price for a new one?

Yep, I remember those days 2-3 years in like 2006-2009 or something. You could get a completely base model Sport brand new off the lot with a lifetime powertrail warranty for <$20K, I was in college at the time making $7 and hour and thought it was dirt cheap, didn't realize just how cheap it was.

I also swore at the time I'd never buy new and never pay more than $20K for a used car, and blew both of those up....

That same build is $44,680 for JLU.

Not sure where you got that number from but Jeep’s builder puts it at $53,525.

Probably from the price it was in 2017 when he posted it? With the record inflation the last couple years, $9k more than 2017 doesn't seem too bad.
