Do what's right for you. Your spending a lot of money and should feel comfortable. I had a 1998 Wrangler and my ex-wife hated it and I got rid of it. Here I am ready to buy a new vehicle and I hear jeep is coming out with a diesel. I have a Chevy 2500 Diesel and it has been the best truck in the world. Bought it new. Kids are all grown up and out of the house, so my current wife said get whatever you want.
"Get whatever you want"... LMAO... Have you run that through the woman language translator yet?

LOL, here come all of the ā€˜mine is awesome’ guys. Haha.

I guess because you got lucky, I screwed up, right?
Awww...I don't think most got lucky...more so the others that had/have probs were/are in the minority. My "steering issues" weren't issues at all..I just needed to drive my Jeep more. I have no other probs with my Jeep but I will be checking my welds, just in case and keep an eye out. This is NOT to say that others' issues aren't real or a serious problem. However, I think the majority of individuals that have bought their 2018s are thoroughly enjoying them!

I must say, I loved my car before...had it for 13yrs, would've kept it if some things, beyond my control, didn't occur. However, this Jeep...wow..Idk. I literally wake up excited to drive it. I'm not an early riser, but I've been going to bed early, getting up earlier so I can have more time in the day with it. It's changed my perspective on A LOT of things. It's made me happier than I thought any inanimate item could...and tbh...has affected me more positively than most people are able to.

So...I think you may want to do a quick re-evaluation and look at other threads. There are many threads on this forum that have positive things to report on the 2018s. I think you may have stayed in the "Issues, Repairs, Warranty, TSB, Recalls " section too long...

Hope you make the right choice for you though! :)

Getting up early? You are aware that you can drive at night, right? :)

I'm an engineer... If I'm at work at 8am, it's because I'm still there from the night before... :)

Haha yes...I typically drive at night to avoid rush hour traffic...but I can see my Mojito! hood a lot less... It just doesn't have that same SPARKLE in the day time hehe.

I go in to work usually 11amish - 8pmish, sometimes later to avoid the jam. Since Lil' Hulk, my tail is waking up at 8am!

Your problem is that you're on a forum. Find the best built most reliable car that's made and go to a forum focused on it. You'll see thread after thread on problems. That's the nature of forums. People are more apt to post about problems or to post questions about correcting or fixing something than they are when everything is going well
Well put with respect to forums. I have owned a BMW X5 for 6 years and had only one failure (AC evaporator developed a leak). If one was to subscribe to the BMW forum and critique the 2013 X5, they probably wouldn't buy the vehicle (used of course).

I have 5200 miles on my JL. It is the best jeep I have owned to date. ( have owned 4 JL's, all bought new) I guess like everything else there are some defective ones made . Mine steers amazingly at high speeds. I tend to drive fast on the highway. Every weekend I head to the lake and drive 85-90 all the way. Runs down the highway like a suburban. I also love the 8 speed transmission in town. It took me a while to get used to the auto stop but now I like it. The comfort improvements are also nice. Lastly, my JL gets way better mileage that my last 3 JL's which is a bonus.

Wow! Wish I could afford 4 JL's

Listening to guys complain about issues on a new vehicle is about as helpful as listening to new owners gushing about their new vehicles. lol

It's best to let things shake out a bit and look for patterns. The patterns I personally see is the vehicle over all is a better than the one it replaced but still has some issues but nothing all that glaring thus far.

JLU Rubi ā€œStingrayā€
I decided today, after reading the ā€˜bad welds’ thread, to cancel my order. I’ve been dying for a fully loaded, sting-gray Rubi since I first laid eyes on them, and I think about it day and night, but I just can’t do it right now.

The issue, for me, is the trouble I see, and, have personally experienced in test drives. I’ve driven a couple of JLs and all had vague steering. I chalked it up to a Jeep being a Jeep until I saw all of the threads and posts here and elsewhere. On one of the test drives, I took a JL Rubi on a stretch of highway where I could open it up and it was insane trying to keep it straight and to keep correcting it. People are sending letters to the NHTSA over frame welds. Nav/audio systems are going nuts. Fans sound like jets with fully opened throttles. Soft-tops are wearing easily. Hardtops have clips breaking. Turbos are burning to the ground after being built and a sock is supposed to fix it. Jeeps are randomly shutting themselves off while driving. Meanwhile, FCA keeps jacking up the price.

I want a JL. I NEED a JL. But I just can’t justify buying one right now. I’m just going to wait it out and see what the late model versions and the 19s have to offer.

If I’m wrong, change my mind. Please, seriously, do it. If you agree with me, what can we do to get @JeepCares to take these issues seriously and produce a higher quality vehicle, worthy of a $50k+ price tag, in the coming months?

I understand, I originally canceled my white Rubi based on reading some of the early reviews. However, in the long run I am glad I did cancel the white because now I have a sting ray Rubi in my garage and love it.

I understand you need to be comfortable with your decision. Good luck

If the concerns you’re reading on this forum are causing you not to buy then I don’t think you’ll ever be comfortable. When the 2019s come out there will be issues and each one will be discussed at length here. Same with the 2020s and 2021s, etc. At the same time the price will keep going up. My exact build now costs $1250 more and next year I’m guessing it will be $2000 more.

As an example I bought a 2016 Honda Pilot and joined one of the forums. Read a ton of issues with the pilot some of which I had and some I didn’t. Just to give you an idea of how bad it was Honda is replacing engines and transmissions in many of the Pilots. I dropped off the forums for two years and just recently checked back in last month. Guess what, the 2018 models are still having similar issues and this is Honda we’re talking about. They haven’t fixed much of anything and are just addressing issues as owners find them and bring them in to the dealer.

Anyway, good luck

I canceled my order as well. Some stuff changed in my life, and I rethought what I'm looking to get out of my garage. Wranglers are gorgeous, and unmistakably capable offroad when they're working properly, but I do need a bit more dependable of a primary vehicle at this point in my life.

Won't be surprised if I have one as a third vehicle weekend toy one year in the future, though.

Smart move. ā€˜18 Rubicon JK is my first Jeep, and I’ve regretted it. ā€œIt’s a Jeep thingā€ isn’t a badge of courage to brag about, it’s acknowledging you bought a poorly built product. I have the NAV/audio problems and a screaming radiator fan. FCA does NOTHING to fix the problem. I see a lack of training for the service techs at local dealers as part of the problem. Failure to fully test systems as the rest of the problem.

Are those your only issues? Those are hardly anything serious. Nav/Audio? Trash that crap and buy something better.

I do agree though, Jeep quality is nothing to brag about. The fact that so many seem to brush off issues simply because ā€œit’s a Jeep thing...ā€ is the reason these things are double the price they are worth.
